How to not win the Governorship of Texas by K. B. Hutchison
Texas' Hutchison voting against Sotomayor
(AP) – 5 days ago
WASHINGTON — Republican Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison says she will vote against confirming Sonia Sotomayor to be a Supreme Court justice.

She said Tuesday she is concerned about Sotomayor's views on the Second Amendment on the right to bear arms. Hutchison is from Texas, where the population
is more than a third Hispanic.

Sotomayor is expected to be confirmed as the first Hispanic justice of the high court.

Texas' junior senator, John Cornyn, voted against Sotomayor on Tuesday as the Senate Judiciary Committee approved the nomination on a 13-6 vote and sent it to
the full Senate.

Hutchison is seeking the 2010 GOP nomination for governor in Texas.

1. There is a HUGE degree of diversity in the Latino community. Sotomayor is Puerto Rican - in Texas
they're largely Chicanos.

So, don't bet on it.

KBH probably isn't counting on their votes anyway.

2. Thanx
But I still think the majority of Latinos would support one of their own. As per giving up on 36% of the vote
that is a huge hunk to let walk away. Although Texas whites are 47.9% and Texas is conservative if you guys get
a fair vote then a Democrat has a fighting chance in 2010.

3. Yes, I agree. But it depends on how many feel this way and turnout.
Which you know already.

I wonder if KBH speaks Spanish, does she?

I can't guess the degree to which Latinos who have been in Texas for a few generations would feel strongly about a Puerto Rican in NY.

This is a very interesting topic because the answers aren't clear.

7. Shining on 36% of the electorate PLUS the rest of the dems, is not that smart
but then it's Kay, so we don't mind if she shoots herself in the foot:)

4. She is more concerned at this point with the GOP primary which is controlled by Right wingers
who don't want Sotomayor confirmed than the GE where the hispanic vote would have more influence.

6. I don't understand why the Repubs are working so hard to get Dems elected.
They must be infiltrating the Dem party in droves.

9. Hey Cuddles!
Actually what this tells me is that KBH is worried about the Republican *primary* against current Gov. Goodhair, and is not so much worried about the general election. She's actually got a point because, well, the current crop of Democratic possibilities for the governorship is Weak with a capital W. :)

10. I feel your pain
In Ohio for years we had such limp d*** people running it was not funny. In 2002 against Bob "convicted of crimes in office" Taft
the Democratic Party put up Tim Hagan who was beyond bad ..... his kick off dinner for the Governor of Ohio was @ a dinner in NYC ....
when asked which Ohio amusement park and what roller coster he liked better (King's Island and the Beast .... Cincinnati or Cedar Point
and the Blue Streak .... Lake Erie) he said that he didn't like amusement parks .... the race was over by Sept 1.

Keep working and Tex ASS will turn blue. The dynamics are there ..... fight the local races first if you have to.

BTW you left me waiting on our last date
