NY jobless graduate sues her college for not providing leads and career advise it had promised
Edited on Mon Aug-03-09 04:08 PM by demoleft
A New York woman who says she cannot find a job is suing the college where she obtained a bachelor's degree, the New York Post reports.

Trina Thompson, 27, filed a lawsuit last week against Monroe College in Bronx Supreme Court.

She is seeking to recover $70,000 (£42,000) she spent on tuition to get her information technology degree.

Monroe College spokesman Gary Axelbank said Ms Thompson's lawsuit was "completely without merit".

(if it happened in italy, we'd have an army of former students taking action. young lawyers apart - they would surely be the last category of students to complain.)

the College states they help their students find a job and provide all the support that's necessary to the purpose.

1. when I got my journalism/english degree, my college gave me a list of publishers
in Colorado, where I live. 80% of them were out of business, the others did things like neighborhood flyers.

Never got a single good job tip out of them. Can I sue? It's been too long now, I'm sure.

when i graduated in rome my professor told me roundly there was no chance for me to compete for a place as a researcher.
too many in a row already.
good luck, she said.

infact, i worked in the tourist field. and i'm a graduate in humanistics.
but here universities are not like your colleges. though we pay high taxes, there's no help nor promise whatever to help find a job.

3. Good for them. How can they keep selling IT degrees when there are no IT JOBS?

And before anyone pipes in with
"We have a lot of jobs here";
provide names and addresses of anyone hiring Main frame programmers.

7. Maybe she didn't get hired because she's the type of person who blames others for her problems.

That sort of trait is not desirable in new employees.
