Semi annual Let's Just Make Shit Up About Hugo Chavez Thread
PSA: The US is negotiating to put new bases in Colombia. No one seems to want them except the Pentagon and Colombia's homicidal lapdog government. And what better way to distract than to start a new wave of allegations against everyone's favorite "leftist strongman friend of Fidel"? There have been four new allegations in the last 48 hours. I expect we'll see more for the next week or so to keep our minds off of this:

Colombians protest US presence

Colombia : Social and political organizations in Colombia called the people to gather on Tuesday to protest US military presence and defend national sovereignty.

According to the call on Monday, the decision by President Alvaro Uribe to allow the presence of US Army troops in several spots of the Colombian territory, in line with a military pact negotiated with Washington, rides roughshod over Colombia's independence and sovereignty.

Similarly, a call for debate was made by members of the Polo Democratico Alternativo Party at a plenary of the Senate of the Republic, presided over by Senator Gloria Ines Ramirez.

The wave of protest has been joined by members of the executive direction of the Unitary Workers Union (CUT), which demanded that the government respects national sovereignty by closing US bases in Colombian territory.

Criticism grows over Colombia's U.S. military plan
By Hugh Bronstein
Reuters
Monday, August 3, 2009; 10:03 AM

BOGOTA (Reuters) - A plan to increase U.S. troops in Colombia is drawing opposition not just from left-wing populist leaders in the region but from the moderate governments of Brazil and Chile as well.

The spreading criticism threatens to isolate Colombia from its neighbors as it combats a cocaine-funded insurgency.

The government is expected to sign an expanded U.S. military pact this month after a final round of talks. Colombia, Washington's main ally in the region, says the plan is aimed at strengthening anti-drug efforts.

But leftist Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez accuses the United States of setting up a military platform in Colombia from which to "attack" its neighbors.

Chavez allies in Ecuador, Bolivia and Nicaragua were quick to blast the plan as well. But Colombia was shocked late last week when Chile, a model of free-market policies, and regional heavyweight Brazil voiced concern about the deal as well.

So, I'll start: I hear Hugo Chavez is outlawing the oppression of panty hose. Only garters represent Bolivaran revolutionary independence.

8. It's not that at all. I read everything.
But given our history of destabilizing Ven, it's not surprising that he'd not buy in. And if you look at his statements and those of his government, they were calls to let Iranians solve Iranian problems. That's his context.

...we start moving hundreds of M1A2 tanks, Bradley Fighting Vehicles, Apache helicopters, F-15E's and F-22's into Columbia. As far as I know, the U.S. is very sensitive about projecting the wrong image in the region and limits itself to assets used for humanitarian aid and drug interdiction.

Hugo loves his drama, though.

36. Welcome to the world of political "non-interference"...
We still give them anti-drug military aid, but then turn a blind eye to their internal affairs.

Hugo is arming those street urchins with Kilo submarines, T-90 tanks, BMP 3's, MI-28 & MI-35 helicopter gunships, Il-78 aerial tankers, Il-76 military freight aircraft and SU-30 Interceptors. He's taking Venezuelan armaments to an entirely new level of offensive capability.

You know how they do this, the US or Russia raises the bar, and the other responds. We sell someone something and the Russians or Chinese sell their neighbors the equivalent. The poor farmers are still plowing their fields with Ox and hand-held hoes, barefoot (good luck getting fertilizer) and are, as often as not, growing coco leaf, pot or poppies just to pay the bribes and taxes on their land.

85. Yes,& there was a deafening silence from Washington after Alan Garcia's helicopters shot down
at crowds of Peruvian Amazonians indigenous people protesting the rape and pillage of their ancestral homelands where they have always lived all their lives which he has tried to sell out from under them to oil and lumber companies, leaving them the opportunity to learn to live hovering in the air if they can find some unused airspace somewhere.

This is the oversized bag of goo who has closed multiple radio and tv stations in Peru, with NOT ONE ####ING WORD UTTERED BY CORPORATE MEDIA IN THE STATES. He has massacred Peruvians brutally, in numbers, after trying to crucify them in the press first by claiming they were selfish turds for not willingly giving up their homes in the forest so Peru could rake in the profits, he publicly claimed they were not first class citizens, then he had his military start blowing them up from the air, and from the land where they live.

NOT ONE PRECIOUS WORD of condolence to the victims' families in our own corporate pig media, not one word of dismay. This man is beloved in Washington because, like Uribe, he excels at pompous posturing, and groveling at the feet of Washington elites, while wielding a horrendous, sadistic contempt toward the poor, and the defenseless.

He's exactly the kind of "leader" our right-wing worships. He's their guy in Latin America, almost as beloved of them as Uribe, who really is beholden to no one when it comes to silencing dissent the permanent way, a Latin American President the US right-wing has NEVER mentioned when they pitch their fits about Chavez and extended terms. They go completely mute as if struck dumb about the fact Uribe didn't even leave it to the people to vote in a referendum concerning his breach of Colombian constitutional limits on Presidential terms. Nope. Leaving nothing to chance, his party members BRIBED Colombian senators to vote to change the constitution.
Now he's working on changing it again.

That's just totally agreeable among heavy-breathing, over focused, hot and sweaty good old lovers of death and destruction of the poor in other countries, the US right-wing unfulfilled, sociopathic blowhards.

Uribe, Colombian President,3rd largest foreign aid recipient in the world, 2nd largest ongoing humanitarian disaster in the world, 2nd only to Sudan, more union workers assassinated than the rest of the world altogether, hell on journalists, while surviving journalists admit to "self-censoring" to remain in the land of the living.

They've got these 2 who have created living hell for the poor, but our puffy, bloated, blotchy spoiled brat wingers look right past them to raise holy hell if Hugo Chavez burps.

Edited on Mon Aug-03-09 06:39 PM by sabrina 1
countries, like Venezuela, were 'calling us' for decades as this government supported dictator after dictator in their countries. Have you read any of the history of US interference in that part of the world?

They hate Chavez because they could not defeat him. They tried, but the people of Venezuela rose up against the US-backed Coup d'etaters. For decades we sent them trained torturers to keep their people down, and assassinated their leaders, or helped over throw them, all in the interests of greed and power.

We have little moral authority in SA but Chavez is extremely popular as country after country throws off their oppressive governments. The US ought to be helping the progress of Democracy in that region of the world, they ought to be cheering for it, IF we really were what we claim to be, instead as always WE are the enemy of those people. So, good for Chavez and anyone else who won't put up with having their countries sold out anymore and their resources stolen and their people impoverished and kept ignorant.

Now, if we could just concentrate on not allowing the same greedy, war-mongering, power-hungry cowards to take over this country, and leave Chavez et al alone, we'd be far better off. And maybe, seeing as how he has dealt with the same global criminals, he could give us some advice.

And the guy he tried to take out was a real corrupt bastard. It was not unusual to see bodies on the street. I saw some federal officers take some supposed bank robbers away in handcuffs. Later that day on the news we saw that they had been "killed" on the scene.

I also know personally from friends that the people rose up and surrounded the presidential palace (sort of their white house) when we tried to remove him. They couldn't get him out because of the 100s of 1000s of people surrounding them.

You always come up short in your continual reference to the coup he led, while ALWAYS leaving out the fact two different coups attempted to remove a mass murdering monster.

For DU'ers who feel a need to see more about what's NOT mentioned in this recurrent half-truth, please take a moment and look up "El Caracazo," the name given to a national disgrace in Venezuela, which became a pivotal time in their history, and triggered a movement AWAY from the rule by oligarchy instantly.

The result of the coup was that Hugo Chavez became an instant celebrity among the massive poor population for his attempt to remove this mass murdering filth, Carlos Andres Perez.

which opened the door for mass murdering, death squad-loving monsters, and what happened in Venezuela, when two different leaders attempted to remove a mass murdering monster from power.

I don't think these tubes are that stupid, that they don't know their Latin American history, so the only conclusion can be that they are hoping to deceive readers who don't know Latin American history.

on DU. For the record, I rec'd this post.

The lies that are told about Chavez in this country are bad enough, but that Democrats are involved, is really sad. His country voted overwhelmingly for him in a an election that was cleaner than any we've had here for a long time. What business is it of the US what the people of Venezuela want?

That country had an 80% illiteracy and poverty rate before he took over. Looks like some on DU would like to see Venezuela go back to those dark days for some reason. Rightwingers I can understand, I never understood those on the so-called left though. And mostly in America. The propaganda here is beyond belief.

He's got his faults, but like you said, he's improved things for the poor... and many have died for such sins as actually trying to change things for the poor at the expense of the rich... so he's still ahead of the game.

90. Hugo Chavez is the one who urged Louisiana's Senator Vitter to go to houses of ill repute.
He's the one who talked him into wearing diapers. He besmirched Vitter's good name.

He's also the one who encouraged Larry Craig to look for quick dates in airport bathrooms, and convinced Elliot Spitzer he should probably look for ways to work off his excess energy.

He also suggested Dick Cheney should go on that canned grouse hunt or whatever it was, and settle an old grudge when no one was looking.

He hired someone to substitute Mexican Jumping Beans for Bush's pretzels.

That's probably the reason behind the coup.

I saw him scissor kick a ten-point buck and throw it in the back of his pickup! And as we drove back to town, the deer wakes up and bites me in the clavicle! And Chavez, he grabs the deer by the antlers, looks at it and says, "I'm Hugo Chavez! Say it!" Then he squeezes the deer in such a way that a sound comes out of its mouth that sounds like "Hugochavez!" Well, not exactly, but it's pretty damn good for a deer!

My only recommend to anyone within screen-shot; is to not be seen as part of that Skinner or no and oh btw...Skinner already knows these things. DU Admin allows a breathtakingly longitudinal/latitudinal display of some of the most desolate infractions upon broadband that much is a given as well such that their sanctioning even by proxy the usage thereof is not per se an indicator as to whether they may or may not agree, just that they may be adhering to our inalienable rights, ergo? In *my* opinion?
