CBS revives "Let's Make a Deal!!
http://www.fancast.com/blogs/tv-news/cbs-revives-lets-make-a-deal/?cmpid=FCST_hero

A big ‘Deal’ is coming to daytime.

CBS announced Monday it is reviving the game show ‘Let’s Make a Deal‘ as a replacement for the canceled soap ‘Guiding Light.’

Wayne Brady will host the one-hour daytime series, which is a modern update of the zany Monty Hall classic (1963-1977) in which the contestants dress up in outrageous outfits to win cash and prizes.

“I am honored and ready to go; it is not every day that you get to be a part of a franchise like ‘Let’s Make a Deal,’” says Brady. “I think it is a perfect fit.”

16. i'm surprised it's taken them this long to revive it.
i always LOVED 'let's make a deal'.

btw- if there are three doors, and one prize- and you pick door #1...the host reveals door number 2 as a non-winner, then gives you the choice of staying with #1 or switching to #3- statistically what should you do?

19. statistically, you should switch...
but it seems to me that if you're just using simple logic- it's a 50/50 chance of it being 1 or 3- so it doesn't matter if you change or stand pat, your odds are the same. but when you take variable change into consideration, and there's a 2/3 chance that your original choice was incorrect...it kind of makes you go...huh?

17. Treasure Hunt? You thinking of the one with Anneka Rice and Annabel Croft in it?
It really wasn't that bad viewing when it was on Channel 4 IIRC. Never got to see the BBC version though.

I wouldn't have thought that Treasure Hunt would translate well to US television.

Now Match Game brought back UK style would be a hoot IMO... but you got to really camp it up big time... Brad Sherwood in drag - that'd be the style of Match Game.

That "treasure hunt" sounds more like Deal or No Deal to me.

The UK Treasure Hunt involved the skyrunner (yes, a cute woman in a jumpsuit) flying around an area, solving clues and running around, usually being filmed from behind by a cameraman with one of those bulky cameras from that era (and still used in some areas today).

20. Oh I got more shows that could work!
Beat the Crusher! Two couples gamble their vehicles against each other for a brand new car - right answers, they win - wrong answers, they're catching the bus home - their car gets crushed in front of them. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0184095/

The Naked Jungle - Game show host takes two teams around solving various puzzles and doing certain physical activities. In the nude. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266787/

The Generation Game - a couple - has to be a generation apart (they like mother/son, father/daughter but it doesn't matter that much), and they get given silly things to do. The winner gets to look at the conveyor belt of prizes, and they have to memorize everything that goes down - what they name they win!

While we're at it, PBS could launch some gameshows: they can take 'Call my Bluff' - a panel game consisting of 3 on each team... each team had to guess which one of the other team gave a true definition to a specific word - so obscure people haven't usually heard of it. Also Countdown: based on a French show where two contestants have to come up with long words given randomly selected letters (only choosing whether it is a consonant or a vowel) and given X number of chosen numbers come up with a mathematical way using those numbers to arrive at a randomly selected number. Also "Mastermind" where individuals get asked some terribly tough questions on a specialist subject and then later on "general knowledge" (it's general but how the heck am I supposed to know that!)

27. I always thought Mastermind would be perfect for PBS.
It's also cheap to do. I can't think of a simpler set.

One other thing. Mastermind makes great use of dead silence when the contestant walks to "the chair". The wikipedia article about MAstermind wasn't kidding when the show's original creator wanted the show to have the atmosphere of a Gestapo interrogation.

chuck was the host of the gong show, and claimed to a cia operative...monty hall was the host of let's make a deal, and i'm not aware of him having made any claims of having being in the cia.

22. Wayne Brady?! I don't approve.
I like Brady fine, but the guy is just too likable and honest-acting. Let's Make a Deal should be hosted by someone who has that sort of used-car salesman charm mixed with sleaze.

If I had my druthers, I'd get Ricky Gervais. The guy is beyond funny, and seems just slimy enough to offer to buy paperclips for $20 each from a man dressed as a giant chicken.

24. I saw a clip recently of the old Monty Hall version
Damn, that guy could talk fast! And the patter was just rat-a-tat-tat with barely a pause for breath. He kept that show moving at warp speed in a time when television episodes developed a lot slower. He'd recap a prize package, and without missing a beat, turn to the box Jay was bringing down the aisle or gesture toward the curtain where the lovely Carol Merrill was standing. Auctioneer fast.

31. One of my favorite intellectual shows from childhood!!
Monty Hall was cool. He was also brighter than the average game show host.

I remember it well.....

"And now, here's America's Top Trader, TV's Big Dealer....Monty Hall!!!"

"It's a lovely silverplated tea set from the Michael C. Fina Company...fine silverplate for your entertaining.."

I have one of those big assed silverplated trays, BTW, with the big pitcher, teapot, little cream pitcher and sugarbowl. The pattern is Remembrance by Wm. Rogers. It was my grandmother's.

... than watching the evening news. Even back then, TV news sucked.
