Always Remember, They Don't Give a Fuck !

Watching the events of the last few weeks, as the birthers get their air time, the health care/insurance reform debate (war) rages on, and watching various news sources with their usual lies and distortions on everything the Obama Administration does or says, it made me long for a time past when there was some level of integrity in the system. We have always had political differences of opinion in this country... many times those differences amounted to enormous chasms, but except on the fringes there has historically been a level of discourse and some level of respect for truth. Over the last three decades or so that has largely disappeared and the result has been a boon to conservatives and the opposite for progressives.

I believe the real difference today is THEY DON'T GIVE A FUCK!

Look at the conflict of interest kerfuffle right now on MSNBC over Wolfe. Never mind that Faux News sticks any and every compromised and conflicted asshole on the air, when the charge is leveled as MSNBC, they buckle despite all the evidence that says the alleged conflict of Wolfe in no way showed while he was sitting in for Keith. So why the double standard? Faux News, just like its parent company the neocon/corporatist/ fundamentalist GOP, doesn't give a fuck. MSNBC, to some degree still does.

On the health care war, the disruptive Armey of Dick-led screaming drown-outs already held and being planned for town hall gatherings, they just give them the screaming points and instructions about how to make sure the event is a failure for anyone that really wants to talk about the issue with their constituents. The media covers this bullshit as if it is truly grass roots and not fully paid for and orchestrated by corporate think tanks with their winger agenda. Why? Because by and large they don't give a fuck if it's true or not--controversy boosts ratings.

On the flip side, why haven't democratic and progressive interests resorted to such? Oh sure, we've had peaceful protests and sit ins and the like on all sorts of issues (and enjoyed far less media coverage than these jerks are getting now), but we haven't simply said we're going into the meeting you called and drown out everybody else and make sure the meeting fails. Why not? Well, generally speaking we have continued playing by the rules, we have continued to honor certain lines and not cross them (the media would fry US if WE did that shit!)... They get to play by different rules because they don't give a fuck.

And of course there's the proliferation of the we-are-just-going-to-make-shit-up crowd. No question, good intentioned (with some level of accuracy) people on our side have made shit up before, too. But the bastards on the right have, in the past couple decades, turned this into an incredible art form and used it as one of the most important controls over their "base." Make it up and say it over and over again and, voila, it becomes the truth to many. From Vince Foster allegations to the Birther's bullshit now. The strategy is make shit up--preferably really bad shit that makes the other side look bad--and guess what? There's 20%-25% of the electorate that will buy into it in a heartbeat! Oh it used to be only half that many fringe folks were susceptible to this crap, but over time, with the MSM including idiots like Hannity, Limbaugh, Beck, Dobbs and others, the LUNATIC FRINGE has gone more mainstream. But why has this happened? Because the other side doesn't give a fuck!

On the GOP side today there are still some few with scruples. There are still some that really care enough about their constituents that they eschew the strategies and tactics that have come to define their party. There are even some who simply believe in some of the bullshit they peddle--misguided as it may be. But by and large, the right wing is now the party of "we don't give a fuck."

The right wing doesn't give a fuck about rules or decorum or civility... just winning.

The FBI does an intensive background check on each presidential candidate and if he wasn't a natural born American citizen, it would have come out. Failing that, if you think Hillary Clinton's campaign wasn't looking hard for skeletons to shake out of his closet, you're crazy. If her people had uncovered the fact that he wasn't a natural born citizen, she would have thrown it like a proverbial knife right through his heart.

I remember back in Marin County Calif., when the local activists were trying to take control of the local hospital back from he huge Corporation, that is Sutter, one woman always brought a supply of large construction paper signs with her.

And when the opposing side would tell some outrageous lie, which would mean that to get our side of the argument in, you would have to wait maybe half the night for your allotted time to speak, so she would scrawl, "Such and Such a fact is a Bald Faced lie!" And she would go up to the podium, and stand there with her sign.

It was a brilliant tactical strategy. It meant the REAL MESSAGE was getting out, despite the liars at the podium, yet the Corporation could not claim that we were being rude or ignoring the rules. (Which had we resorted to shouting down the speakers, out of our frustration, they would have done.)

The signs were within the law and made a great impact on how we could finally finagle our side of the message and make the audience aware of the real facts.
