LA Fire Department shuts rescue units under cost-cutting plan

The Los Angeles Fire Department has begun shutting down rescue units and eliminating paramedic field supervisors as part a cost- cutting plan expected to increase emergency response time, it was reported today.

snip

As part of the effort to close a $56.5 million budget shortfall, three additional ambulances in Sylmar, Hollywood and East Hollywood were indefinitely taken out of service on Sunday, The Times reported. Staffed by firefighters for 12-hour periods, those ambulances were used to free up busy paramedic ambulances by responding to lower-level emergencies.

Also eliminated indefinitely were three slots for captains who supervise paramedics in the field and serve as emergency room liaisons, according to The Times.

"You're going to compromise care for a lot of people and you're potentially going to kill some people," Bill Ramsey, a 30-year department paramedic, told the newspaper.

And so the killing of California continues.

1. Deliver the bodies to the governor's office, Sacramento
After all, Ah-nuld and his tax terminating pals in the lege should get an up close and personal look at the fruits of their handiwork.

7. See, the Republicans don't want to kill old people...
...they just want them weak enough to drag them into the bathroom and drown them in the bathtub.

Hasn't that been the case with Republicans for some time now? After all dead people can't sue you and poor people don't have the money to go to court.

It's a perfect situation for the Repukes!

The party in Power is the Big Money Party, and it matters little if there is a D'' or an 'R' after someone's name.

15. First time I heard the term, DU'er
Autorank was posting articles about this.

You can read them by going to google, and using as terms "Money Party" + "democraticunderground" + autorank

Also the articles are on Snoop news out of New Zealand or Australia. Most excellent commentary, fully researched, and yet not offering much (outside of limited) fame or recompense to the author.

10. How can you say "Thanks Republicans?"
Edited on Tue Aug-04-09 03:27 PM by truedelphi
You do mean, "Thanks so much, Ya Big One Money Party People," don't you!

After all, if Geithner had seen fit to bail out California, offering what would be less than .5 of one percent of the total spend on Geithenr's fat cat buddies over on Wall Street, we could go on with our lives here in California. (By the way, watching ten minutes of YouTube's last night, I caught Geithenr in Two, and maybe three, outright lies to Congress. He should be indicted for that.)

We have had a Democratic Congress since Nov '06. And the first thing that Congress did under Nancy Pelosi was to raise the postal rates for small business people, while offering Time/Warner a break.

And the drama of watching the Democrats is sickening. Let's face it, with the exception of the fifty plus brave members of the Progressive Causcus, the Dems are so loyal to Big Corporate Pharma and Insurers that they are glad as punch that the Repugs are stalling around, so they can blame the Repugs.

Hell if there was integrity in the WH, there could be an Executive Order signed by Obama stating that as of January 1,st 2010, the Universal Single Payer Universal Health Insurance Policy will be in force for every American upon their submitting their name, Soc Security Number, and address.

Cost of program can go on the same damn line in the Federal Budget where the expenses for the Congress' health insurance care is noted.

Six times as many people die from lack of health coverage as died on Nine Eleven. Every year. It is a damn emergency.

And if the nation did not need to think up where we would get funds for two wars, and the Homeland Secuirty program, I don't see why we need to bullshit the populace as to the fact that health care cannot be afforded. Right DAMN now!
