God, I love the unrecommend option. Is it an illness?
I have sworn to myself never to use it (yet swearing to myself means very little). I'm so apathetic that that sort of effort is WAY above my pay scale. I only give out recs. when there is something very astute, funny, or absurd (see Brocoli thread). I just love seeing people get all pissy over the unrec, option.

Why do I love seeing people get pissed that their eloquent and timely posts get unrec.ed? Why? Yes, obviously, I suffer from schadenfreude, but uhhh, why else? I think it's because if you're narcissistic enough to get your jollies from seeing your post being applauded (yeah!) or, even better yet, put on the Greatest page (oooh, sparkly starbursts galore), then I really do get great pleasure from your sense of rejection. Really, I do. I may be shallow. I may be crass. I may be a puddle of anti-human splooge; but I just revel in your rejection--only because you want it so much. Yes, this is why I garner pleasure from the idea of the unrec. Interestingly enough, I can't pull the trigger. I can't unrec. a thread. Funny, that. But I make this promise to all of you: whichever of you so moves me to unrec. your thread, I will be sure to announce that I've unrec.ed it. I figure I owe your sell-out ass that much.

Please don't hate me. And, if you do, well, it's for the best, really.

San Dimas High School Football Rules!

3. So you want a contest to see who can piss you off enough
To instigate an unrec?

Are you narcissistic enough to get your jollies that way?

5. Oh, god, yes I am.
But in a sad and pathetic way.

Or maybe I want to see the person who posts something I agree with so much and THEN see all of the adulation thrust upon it by other I loathe that I hate myself and therefore unrec.

Or maybe . . .

4. I think people should have to explain their unrecs
Just a couple of words is fine.

Like this: I unrec'ed this post because it is stupid.

Like this:
"ithinkmyliverhurts, I rec. this because, well, I too protest the inanity of the unrec. function."

Or maybe this: "ithinkmyliverhurts, I rec. this because I too protest the inanity of the rec. function."

Or how about this: "ithinkmyliverhurts, I rec. this because you're obviously a loser who has never amounted to anything. I don't know if his will give you any joy, but it may stop you from bad thoughts. So to you, my friend, ithinkmyliverhurst, I give you rec."

To which I would reply: "ithinkmyliverhurts, you little rec. whore. You should be ashamed. Your post deserved nothing of the sort. You probably bumped something about Oily Taints off the front pgae. You are an uber-douche, thinkmyliverhurts."

19. I've explained mine several times. I'm not going to explain it 200 times a day.
Most of the threads I unrecommend, I also HIDE THREAD immediately, to get that crap off my screen for good.

If you really need to know why I unrecommend threads, read my posts in this thread.

7. Having people be apathetic about your posts is worse..
Unrecs at least mean someone paid enough attention to dislike it..

Or you as the case may be.

8. I'm not a fan of the feature...
trolls can screw with the rec's and unrec's. I've seen a few of my threads get unrec'd and my brain gets to thinking about what I did wrong. Who did I piss off? Should I not start a thread if it's going to just get unrec'd? Yeah, I'm thinking too much about this. It's probably not worth the brain strain.

12. Maybe you should study threads that get recommended and see what they do.
Edited on Thu Aug-06-09 10:04 PM by TexasObserver
I routinely unrecommend any OP that lacks substance.

If you start a thread saying "Keith is on now!" Unrecommend.

If you start a thread that already has 3 threads on the topic, Unrecommend.

If you don't say anything I deem worthy of being on the Greatest page, Unrecommend.

If you start a thread about dogs, cats, or other posters, Unrecommend.

If you start a thread about freepers, Palin, Limbaugh, Unrecommend.

Here's the math: I recommend dozens of threads a day, but I unrecommend hundreds. Why any poster EXPECTs to get more recommends than unrecommends is a mystery. That expectation is totally unrealistic. It has nothing to do with you. It has to do with the fact that most threads here are unrecommend material.

14. I can't believe so many posters think their craptastic OPs deserve recommends.
Edited on Thu Aug-06-09 10:19 PM by TexasObserver
OR don't deserve unrecommend.

Good grief, a look at the board any time of day or night reveals half the threads are instantly identifiable as being unrecommends.

"Hey, Keith is on!"

"Mandatory Masturbatory!"

"Somewhere today a cat died."

"Anyone seen old Screen Name lately? Haven't seen her in a while."

"I'm so mad at someone who didn't pay attention to me today!"

"I wrote a letter to the editor."

"Freepers! Ugh."

"Palin said something else today."

"I love dogs. Don't you love dogs?"

"I told my right wing cousin off!"

These are all fine for forgettable conversation, but they're also all clearly Unrecommend worthy. Posters should expect unrecommends when they post every thought that pops into their head. It ain't twitter here.

17. I was thinking that we need a new category for recs.
Edited on Thu Aug-06-09 10:22 PM by ithinkmyliverhurts
Maybe something like: "You suck."
Or; "We all liked you better when you didn't post."
Or; "you really should have killed yourself two years ago."

Unrec. just seems so impersonal. If I'm going to b insulted, I'd really like it to be personal, you know. It just seems like the decent thing to do.

20. You're free to add additional comments in the threads.
A few of my Unrecommends I do not HIDE. They may make for a lively discussion, but be a shitty OP and thread. I can think of several that went into the hundreds of responses this week which weren't worth a bucket of warm spit.
