Did you witness any arrests?

I was actually standing near the lady with the lime green shirt for most of the meeting. Funny thing... the guy with the "can't read" sign... the had misspelled 'read' and had to fix it. couldn't get a clear photo, though. I'm so ticked to see the one above.

It looks like it's spelled correctly, but there are a gaps between the letters in the 'tricky' middle bit that suggests Mommy had to help him out, or he had to copy it from somewhere..

I'm amazed that he pulled off "Constitution".

Was there any violence or was it just a lot of angry people demonstrating? It seems like these town hall things have escalated into shouting matches and chanting.. The police were there, but no one was arrested? The whole news story seems confusing.

nose to nose shouting matches. no violence that I am aware of. but you know, you get over middle aged people together and and anything above a pat on the back is violence.

I got into an argument about healthy care with a wing-nut at work. He said that healthcare was expensive because of malpractice insurance. I let him know that the reason malpractice insurance was so high was so that the insurance companies could make money. He countered with a story about a poor woman who had been awarded 40 million dollars when her newborn died in a hospital. She didn't deserve a settlement, he felt, since she hadn't been to a doctor in 2 years.

I countered that if we had a civilized healthcare system, she would have seen a doctor sooner and the baby would have survived (and incidentally, the insurance company would not have had to pay 40 million). Also, wasn't a human life life worth anything?

He almost spit out his reply, "Not 40 million! And NO ONE should be able to go from WELFARE to being a multi-MILLIONAIRE!"

There was his real reason. Poor people don't deserve to be "not poor".

I just looked very closely at his sign with my magnifying glass. I could swear there is a 'u' instead of the 1st 'o' in constitution. TOO FUNNY!!!!! :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

Show up with their personal physicians, hold signs that say "I've got mine, so screw you," tell the assorted onlookers that their physical ailments are obviously the result of moral shortcomings, stuff like that. Much hilarity ensues.

On the other hand, maybe not. Things are getting nasty out there.

The chin on the guy in the new photo looks bigger, but then his beard is shaped a little differently. Nose I'm not sure of. Glasses are similar. Head gear in both pictures. Different head gear but in both pictures cleverly hides the forehead. Absolutely the same mustache which is hilarious. That mustache takes some effort to grow and groom. I don't think that everyone could grow a mustache like that. Face looks narrower in the old picture, but that could be due to the additional weight in the new one and the slightly different beard. Same for difference in chin. Looks smaller in new picture but could be difference in beard.

That being said, if Glenn Beck were to be found dead of an alcohol overdose, I would find it very hard to shed any tears.

But once they are inside a meeting, the police should remove them if they disrupt too much. Code Pink was frequently removed and arrested. That's what demonstrators have to expect.

It would be very simple to have a moderator/spokesperson set ground rules before these meetings and announce them to the audience...

NO SHOUTING/YELLING by anyone

As soon as someone begins to shout then the people on the stage should quietly leave...meeting over.

Most of the people do not want to have this happen at these meetings...unfortunately just a few get things started by shouting and then others join in as they think this is proper behavior at these events.

Unfortunately, this is -exactly- what the people doing the shouting -want- to happen.

They do not want discourse. They do not want debate. They do not want fact distributed to the public. When people are given the facts about how screwed up the healthcare system is for almost everybody, they tend to be pro-reform.

If a meeting is terminated early, then for them it is a victory. Ignorance is there ally.

The AARP was holding a meeting on health care, and when the crowd got unruly, the AARP unplugged the mike and left.
