Keeping us proles in our place
The Republicon Homelander state of mind in one of it's latest manifestations.

From today's New York Times

Another Hurdle for the Jobless: Credit Inquiries

"...Once reserved for government jobs or payroll positions that could involve significant sums of money, credit checks are now fast, cheap and used for all manner of work. Employers, often winnowing a big pool of job applicants in days of nearly 10 percent unemployment, view the credit check as a valuable tool for assessing someone’s judgment..."

"How do you get out from under it? You can’t re-establish your credit if you can’t get a job, and you can’t get a job if you’ve got bad credit." - MATTHEW W. FINKIN, a University of Illinois law professor, on denying jobs to debtor

1. I have always thought that it shouldn't be available for potential
employers. If I can't get a copy of my credit report why should a stranger that I am not asking for a loan, it's none of their damn business.

4. It's still an infernal Catch-22 loop, characteristic of Republicon Think
No credit, no job. No job, no credit.

8. They are trying to bring back the feudal system

When we are hungry enough, we will do anything for a crust of bread. Well, some of us will. Others of us will storm castles and be dragged, kicking and screaming into the next dark age.

Frankly, this theocracy thing going on sorta reminds me of the buildup to the Inquisition. For those of us with beliefs that don't flow mainstream, it seems like 'deja vue all over again' ;) Was just musing on the political power structure of church and state, as wielded by the ruling class through the ages.

Cycles.

edited to correct word omission.

9. Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't it be the applicant who gets to check
check the credit history of the potential employer, since after all it is the employer who is going to need to come up with cash to pay the applicant if he is employed. I can see background checks for employees, but credit check even for accountants or money handlers, though I can at least sort of see it for them.
