A brilliant Horsey Cartoon
I am glad that the demise of the print edition of the Seattle P-I has not deprived us of best editorial cartoonist in the USA.

north for our trading partners.

4. The beauty of the course of action which I propose would be that it would REMOVE a bunch of people
from Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and all other forms of GOVERNMENT programs.

18. P.S. Those who would be removed are some of the most unhealthy in the U.S. This IS what they want.
Survival of the "Fittest"? - Give it to them.

5. Wow... so you really want to abandon the 1.1 million Tennesseeans, for example,
Edited on Fri Aug-07-09 08:18 AM by Kalyke
who voted for Obama?

Liberals who broad-brush the South are no better than conservative bigots who broad-brush people of color.

Edited on Fri Aug-07-09 08:25 AM by ima_sinnic
are you saying it would be better to have people like that living among us? people whose only goal in life is to wake up stupid, get the latest orders from Limbaugh and Hannity, and purposely disrupt democracy? Give them their own little anarchic corner of heaven so we can advance.

Edited on Fri Aug-07-09 08:29 AM by Kalyke
I don't want to move up North. I like my moderate climate here. I like my home. I like my yard. I like the Democratic bubble in which I live in a very red county.

16. Funny, last map of voting patterns has all the red states in the desert west
So perhaps we should kick Utah, Wyoming, the Dakotas, etc. out instead?

The stupid is everywhere. Try living in upstate NY, eastern Washington, rural Ohio, etc. We are all Americans and have to deal with "teh stupid"

19. Some of us are.
The problem here is, of course, our lack of any progressive media (unless one wants to pay for satellite radio).

21. You can stream Thom Hartmann and Ron Reagan and Amy Goodman from the internet and share.
I live in a Red state too, with a Blue Dog princeling in our congressional seat. Some of us are out in the streets here every Sunday (instead of church - or rather - the streets are my church now.)

As stated elsewhere in this thread, we've all got our birfers and racists.

7. yes, ferchrissakes, give them their own land and close the gate.
Let them flounder like Somalians with no government services whatsoever. No taxes at all, so no public services like fire, police, or garbage collection, no public schools, no minimum wage, no child labor laws, no workplace safety, no public highways. They will soon go extinct in Animal Farm anarchy, working for $1/hr for 65 hrs a wk while up to their neck in pollution and garbage and unable to afford anything, making the world a MUCH BETTER place.

15. did I say where it would be?
you're assuming I agree with the cartoon, that it would be the entire former CSA.
one state or even part of a state would be sufficient. So let it be Utah or some place like that.

and by the way, I lived for 2 years in North Carolina and 11 years in Florida, and I detest those states with every fiber of my being. I never met so many openly bigoted, ignorant a-holes in my life, and Florida, especially, is one big experiment in failure. The entire state is treated like a resource to be ripped off and exploited, rather than a unique and precious habitat that should be preserved. If it erodes into the sea, I won't mind.

They may have changed since you left.

However, what we really need to do is educate a lot of people. The South has virtually no progressive media. If it did, I'm guessing many of those people who call themselves Republican wouldn't be if they were given both sides of the arguments in a stable manner.

9. So are 1.1 million in Tennessee, 813,500 in Alabama,
Edited on Fri Aug-07-09 08:41 AM by Kalyke
862,400 in South Carolina, 1.8 million in Georgia, 782,000 in Louisiana,
554,700 in Mississippi and 303,900 in West Virgina.

For the record, 42.3 percent of all Southerners voted for Obama. I'm guessing they're on the Union's side this time, too.

P.S. The number is probably higher than 42.3 percent. I neglected to factor in Florida, North Carolina and Virginia. I'm guessing, with adding those, it's more like 45 to 47 percent.

13. Jury's still out on VA
Did you see the recent poll re: number of Virginians who don't believe Obama was born in the US? I think it was 70%.

And the polls for VA's governor are currently trending GOP....

At any rate, racism is a complex thing and isn't limited to one geographical area. The worst racism I've ever encountered was in Indiana (and I grew up in Texas).

23. All healthy relationships are predicated on the ability of BOTH sides to walk-away.
A relationship succeeds on the CHOICE to be in it, without that CHOICE the relationship is toxic. I say let "the South" go.

Afterall, they're more red than the South.

See that big ole red patch straight up the Plains states? The South has a lot more purple and blue.
