When FDR was getting Social Security passed in
the 30s, the right wing said it was going to be the end of the world! It was going make America a socialist state.

But today, God help any politician that threatens to mess with Social Security!

When LBJ was getting Medicare passed in the 1960s, the right wing said it was going to be the end of the world! It was going make America a socialist state.

But today, God help any politician that threatens to mess with Medicare!

Someday, decades after Universal Health Care becomes a reality and the US finally joins the rest of the civilized world, the same will be true.

The right wing:

Wrong on Civil Rights

Wrong on National Defense

Wrong on Foreign Policy

Wrong on Social Security

Wrong on Medicare

Wrong on Health Care

The right wing is really the Wrong Wing (Dubya squared I guess)... We have always known that and, while their leaders and blowhards dig in their heels, a lot more people are realizing it!

Oh, so temped to send your post to my winger brother, the one:

On Social Security

On Medicare

Who received medical care he could never pay for himself
very expensive tests, several times
stints to keep his heart going
bypass surgery, ditto
more of those tests, ditto
more stints, ditto

all while other people were going without

I would send it, but he just wouldn't get the message. He's too involved with himself and his anger to have any empathy for others who aren't enjoying benefits from liberal programs.

16. I'm sorry. I just told a friend of mine about anger. He looked
sheepish and said, "I know."

And a lot of these seniors out there, acting out and angry, are going to find that the Living Will is not their biggest problem.

4. The fact that so many people can't seem to connect these dots is
a testament to the power of the RW propaganda that suffuses all major media outlets.

8. Yes, they maligned Social Security, PBGC, Medicare - anything that helps average people.
They've tried to undercut Social Security and Medicare, but don't dare make the frontal attack on those programs they really want to make.

Notice we are no longer hearing their "I want to let YOU invest your Social Security dollars in the stock market, so YOU can get the kind of return on your SS payments you deserve."

18. They know even the dimmest bulbs will remember what happened to the markets.
It's bad enough so many took a hit on their IRAs and 401-K plans - none of us can afford to lose the guarantee of a minimal income. But you know, with that big a pot of money just sitting there, they will try again... and again.

Goldman Sachs and the others would have lost all pretense and begun handing out billion dollar bonuses had they got their hands on SS in 2005 - and we'd all be completely screwn.

12. Bingo! It has become more important to
the wrong wing for this to fail, for the President to fail, than any real policy consideration.

If the economy continues to recover and if this passes and people see that the catastrophe they are screaming about doesn't occur--they will likely be in the political wilderness a long time.

More than anything they are afraid it will be successful... Because they know what happened with Social Security and Medicare.

wing cousins on there. This is very instructional and a "teachable" statement...LOL.

11. It also didn't cover...
...most domestics, and agricultural workers, i.e. blacks and Mexicans. It took 20 years before they were included.

It was a bad bill, a racist bill, and it never should have passed. It would have been better to have nothing until those changes were made. Progressives should have voted it down.

Just like any health care bill without single payer.
