The sad thing is IT'S A TOWN HALL PEOPLE!
Sure screaming and disrupting a prepared speech or proceeding seems logical. The protester will not be allow to say anything and it seems like the only way to gain attention. It's certainly the only way to show they disagree with what is said since the opposition isn't given equal time to speak. (It actually helps to let the person say something before you disagree with it). Many liberal groups have attempted these kinds of protests. There actual effectiveness certainly varies.

But what exactly is the logic behind this kind of protest at a open forum town hall where you will actually be allow to speak? Town halls are a forum that allows you to openly question the presenter. Certainly I can see booing or jeering an answer to a question. But why shout down all discussion? I guess it's a protest. But not a protest against the forums subject since the subject is open discussion about "health care". This turns out to be a protest against open free speech. Which is totally different. These people oppose the ability of the speaker and worse the audience from actually engaging in the actual forum. It's not that often a government official allows you to openly question them without the filter of the media, why would anyone waste that opportunity? and yet these people do:(

1. As they cover their ears and chant "I can't hear you."
If real, honest public discourse could happen, we will get meaningful, effective change in our health care delivery system.

That frightens some folks, I guess. Meanwhile, other folks die for lack of medical care.

2. The idea is to shut it down
The free exchange of ideas is the enemy to those who have no ideas and only want to oppose.

3. Their point is to shout down all discussion because
1) they themselves have nothing to say.

2) they KNOW that they themselves have nothing to say.

3) the debate must not go on because they know they cannot win.

4. They aren't protesters.
They shout for the status quo.

We are the protesters.

5. Don't Overanalyze.....
the Repugs have nothing. They know that the vast majority of Americans support 'healthcare reform'. What did I hear 72%? They know that if they didn't resort to disruption at these meetings that many of the remaining fears that some may still have might be answered and the Dems would have a warm feeling in their tummy that they would be doing the right thing to move 'health reform' through.

So the only thing that the Repugs have is disruption. Don't let the message be heard. Put doubt in the minds of the 28% that don't support and hope to bring down the 72% number. Put doubts in the minds of the members of Congress that will have to vote on this.

Hope that this faux rage being foisted on the public will get airplay on the cable news shows and hope that it is contagious and spreads to the fringe grassroots - those not being bussed in to these Town Halls.

The people that are now opposing the ability of the speaker to speak - or the audience to question - don't want fair discourse on this issue - they want to obfuscate or confuse the issue.

I'm just hoping that the members of Congress that are having to endure this treatment - see through it - and don't let it sway their opinion.

Incidentally - the MSM is falling right into the trap that the organizers of these disruptions wanted them too. They are playing clips 24/7 and this will go on throughout this August recess.

That's all they got.

7. I'm not sure the media is falling for the trap
It appears the disruption of process is starting to come full circle. At first the news was big protests against health care at town halls. Now the focus is more on the protesters and them being just disruptors. Oddly enough unlike liberal protesters, conservative protesters are allowed to get air time with the media. When they had nothing to say they really turned the coverage. It's only Aug 7th. I can't imagine how negative their coverage will be by the end of the month. The media eventually needs a story an angle... something. These people have nothing productive or even logical to say.

6. They don't want debate. They don't even want discussion. What they want
is blind, unthinking obedience. Preferably to their interpretation of the bible.

8. Because the people who sent them there can't afford to have the media filter removed.
They don't want honest questions answered in thoughtful detail. They don't want people thinking about their options. They don't want people to think they have options.
