Willy DeVille passed away today.
Sad news. Pancreatic cancer, just shy of his 59th birthday. I haven't seen an actual obituary yet, but his Wikipedia page has the news http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willy_DeVille">here.

US singer-songwriter Willy DeVille dies aged 55

(AFP) – 1 hour ago

PARIS — US singer songwriter Willy DeVille, who headed the 1970s New York punk group Mink DeVille before going solo and taking new directions, has died at the age of 55, his French tour organiser said Friday.

"Willy DeVille this night joined Edith Piaf, Jack Nitzsche and Johnny Thunders", said Caramba Spectacles, referring respectively to the French star who inspired him, to his producer, and to a fellow-70s punk guitarist.

His wife had announced in June that DeVille had pancreatic cancer.

DeVille in the late 70s played in New York's mythical CBGB club alongside the likes of Blondie or the Ramones with his first album Cabretta produced by Nitzsche, former arranger for Phil Spector. ... http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5hB3g0eExz3q2GeyRk3kYVn3g8jmw

6. You bet. I can't get "Venus of Avenue D." out of my head now.
"Yes, she's the queen of my block"

They really don't make 'em like that anymore.

2. damn...i was turned on to Willy via Long John Baldry doing a fantastic cover...
of 'Savoir Faire' on his album 'Long John Baldry' (1980), the same year Willy had released the song on his 'Le Chat Bleu' - an album that is timeless...

Willy was one of a kind...and has left us with an amazing body of music...

R.I.P. Willy...
