My health aide has been having chest pains all week...
I suggested she see her doctor or go to the ER, she said she could'nt afford it. Her job only pays $1200 a month and she canceled her health insurance because it would have cost her $300 a month thru United Health Care. She also has a cataract that needs to be removed and is a cancer survivor. One day last month she asked me to sign an anti-health care reform petition being circulated by a doctor! I said no. These are the people Obama needs to connect with.

1. She wanted you to sign an anti-health care reform petition?
Oh my. I don't know what to say.

2. Why on earth would someone like her be against health care reform?
That just boggles my mind.

3. Because of the lying RW TV ads which badly need to be debunked by TV spots from the Obama admin. nt

10. Yes, but her ignorance translates into actions that harm others, too.
She signs petitions and maybe she even votes and, beyond her political activity, she's not someone I'd want delivering health care to me or anyone I care about.

9. Herp Derp
It puzzles me why universal healthcare has such a bad name in the USA. When you look objectively at all the arguments that those against it use they are all frighteningly anti-social. Yet somehow accepted by a huge portion of the public.

I'm beginning to conclude that the people of this country simply don't deserve any better than they've got.

14. Please read my question below
Perhaps she is just a fool. Perhaps it is a new job requirement for working poor in health care industry? Give it some thought before condemning her outright.

is an overdose of Corporate Media propaganda.

17. Again...she will keep her tv on, so Obama needs to run ads using that medium. It's simple really.

13. First I was tempted to suggest complaining to her boss about the petition
People should not be pestering clients with political petitions. Then I got to wondering... Is her employer suggesting to the health aid that she needs to get people to sign the petition?

Perhaps DUers with connections to health care employers might want to look into possibility workers are 'encouraged' to be foot soldiers in the war on reform? Are the working poor being exploited by employers to do their dirty work?

Yes, I know, too many people vote/act against their own self interest. But, are desperate workers being made to do things which are political rather than legitimate part of their jobs?

15. That's interesting
You may be right about the employer pushing it. Try to press the issue with her in a non-confrontational way.

16. Report her to her employer over the petition business.
That's completely inappropriate, and if she's doing it with you, you know she's doing it with others who don't have their wits about them as much.

19. Liberals haven't done anything for the working poor in decades either.
The liberals in the middle class abandoned these people a long time ago and now it's coming back to hit us all in the face.

"So we will either see that Americans, religious or not, get educated equally so they won’t be suckered by political and religious hucksters. If not, then we must accept that uneducated people interpret politics in an uninformed and emotional manner, and accept the consequences. America can no longer withstand the political naiveté of this ignored white class. Middle class American liberals cannot have it both ways. It has come down to the simplest and most profound element of democracy: Fairness. Someday middle class American liberals will have to cop to fraternity and justice and the fact that we are our brother’s keeper, whether we like it or not. They’re going to have to sit down and actually speak to these people they consider ugly, overweight, ill educated and in poor taste. At some point down the road all the Montessori schools and Ivy League degrees in the world are not going to save your children and grandchildren from what our intellectual peasantry, whether born of neglect or purposefully maintained, is capable of supporting politically. We’ve all seen the gritty black and white newsreels from the 1930s."

And perhaps this women understands in her gut that whatever "liberal" heath reform emerges from the elite in Washington will inevitably be one more massive screw job for her and her working class family and neighbors.
And she's right.
