We're Fighting The Anti-Health Reform Mob For A Watered-Down Plan
that will NOT be major reform and will NOT do what needs to be done...and what by all rights CAN be done with the Ds solidly in power.

Fuck any hint at bipartisanship. It is not "ramming through" legislation if you have a solid majority behind it. It is the will of the people.

Ramming things through is what the Rs did with razor slim majorities in Congress, not allowing debate or amendments, scheduling legislative votes at time that insure passage, slipping amendments into bills AFTER the amendment-offering period has supposedly ended, holding votes open for hours in order to strong arm people into changing their votes, etc.

It pains me to imagine that the forces of good are going to have to mobilize in a major way to counter the hate and ignorance on the right, and for what? For "reform" that doesn't have a decent public option, let alone a path to single-payer? For legislation that protects the practices and profits of big pharma/insurance? For "reform" that leaves millions of Americans uninsured while not offering a real option for the tens of millions who are overpaying for premiums while receiving sub-standard services?

Sorry, but it's a bit like a football team mounting a historic 99-yard drive down the field, only to have the refs call a 98-yard penalty with 4 seconds to go on the clock.

1. Yes, you are right and we don't need to fight it by backing up plans we
don't agree with. The fight we should be having is writing LTTE of our local newspapers, and of course tell our Congressional Representatives and Senators that in no certain terms will you accept a piece of legislation that panders to the corporate bottom line. You will not accept any legislation that leaves one person uninsured. You will not send them money if they cave in. In states like Montana where the politicos have to depend on PAC money, let them know you won't vote for them in the next primary but for a different candidate if the money they take is in such large amounts, it amounts to bribery.

a chess move. Way to burst my bubble. Actually that was an excellent post. It should have far more than 7 recs.

7. I couldn't agree more.
I wish the Democrats would take a good look at exactly what all of this compromise got them, then go back and rewrite the bill to at least give us a strong public option.

Instead they want to pretend that the only way we can get any reform is to cave to the drug companies and insurers. They are still deluding themselves into believing that the drug companies and insurers are on our side now. Take a look at these riots. Many of the shouters are employees of drug companies and health insurers. Others were bused in by firms with strong ties to these corporations. It should be obvious by now that we don't have any coalition, so why are we still stuck with this watered down legislation?

8. The mob doesn't give a bloody goddam what kind of plan it is
They are, however, distracting us from fighting for our own version(s) of it.
