At least for now.

How long before Crist puts in his "place holder"?

And what marching orders will be given?

2. I don't think so. Probably Jim Smith, someone who won't run but is
reliable.

23. no, he could appoint himself.
The governor can appoint anyone he wants to fill the seat, including himself.

24. OK. My mistake.
I had read on someone's blog earlier today that he could not.

(This Update from the LA Times: Gov. Crist said that he would not appoint himself. Such a move might seem a bit tawdry, but it is still within the realm of possibility, despite the Governor's denial.)

11. Except there are not 60 Democrat(ic) Senators, there are 58.
58 Democratic Senators. The ic is what separates us from the freepers.

15. Is that what separates us? Really?
Well gee willekers, thank you so much for the lernin! Every good Dem knows it's all about the definition of the word right? Giving things the right label?

If that's truly what separates "us", if it's definition and pronunciation rater than policy, then I'll just stand here alone, thank you.

26. I do know the difference and it was an oversight.
However, these are serious times and it requires serious thought and serious people so I don't have a lot of time for people caught up in proper pronunciation. Truly, was the fact that I said Democrat instead of Democratic the big issue here?

I feel, as a person who's been a Democrat all my life, I'm getting very little out of the big majority we have in the Senate.

you know what i mean?

this isn't Barbara Boxer's or Sherrod Brown's fault.

22. Just go posting "Democrat" Senators around DU and you'll have your hands full of responses.
Freepers call them "Democrat" Senators, "Democrat" President. If you can't learn this, then I'm sorry for your disability.

Oh, by the way, I won't be able to read anymore of your posts, but that's no loss for me for those who are willingly stupid.

18. We now have a full filibuster-proof majority!
Edited on Fri Aug-07-09 02:51 PM by backscatter712
There are now 98 members of the Senate that are active and voting.

60% of that is 58.8, round up to 59.

Guess what. We have 59 active members of the Democratic caucus (yes, that includes Lieberman and Sanders. Unfortunately, I'm not counting Kennedy because he's incapacitated by his illness, though he might be flown in to cast the final vote for health care reform.) We can at this moment, break filibusters!

Time to start ramming legislation up their asses, methinks.
