Anyone else paying closer attention to personal defense due to the wingnuts?
I think I've mentioned here before that I'm a prominent Dem in a very Republican rural area. What with the Freeper types crashing the town halls, and their escalating violent rhetoric and actions, lately I've been thinking a lot more than usual about protecting myself, my home, and our local Democratic events. Has anyone else around here been feeling a bit more militant thanks to the psycho brigade?

1. Do what you think best
But I'm not afraid of these ethical Lilliputians.

2. Your best defense.
A video camera, cell phone, phone number of local police, phone number of strong Dem lawer like Jeff Fieger.

10. No, you best defense is situational awareness of where you are and the risks present
You mitigate those risks with a variety of tools including the buddy systems, cameras, recording devices, and weapons as required

3. Militant? Never. Resolved, fired up, ready to speak truth to power and peacefully
hold my ground? Definitely.

If they choose to resort to violence, that's on them. I won't and will never engage in that behavior.

5. I'll never understand the mindset...
...that says it's morally superior to be a victim than to protect yourself.

11. Agreed. It is superior to make the other guy for his cause than to die for yours
Patton is credited with doing a more colorful version of that, but the thought is right on

4. Not as an individual,
but I believe that more people are.

I believe in self-defense, and defending one's family & friends. And to do so, one needs to be fully aware of every situation they walk into.

6. The thought has crossed my mind in the past when twice,
people tried to run me off the road and flipped me the bird after I had put Vote Obama stickers on my back windshield (that and minor vandalizing of my vehicle).

8. Bravo for you, LOoniX.
(Because of the letters capitalized in your handle, I assume that you're Jewish. I know a comedy musician named ShoEboX...you can guess his particular favorite thing.)

I don't think it wise to go into a rally strapped. However, I think that police would not object to you wearing a flak vest or something similar. That might help save your life.

9. I doubt I'd have that option if I'm in public...
The most serious weapon I'm legally able to carry outside my home turf is a 3" pocketknife, which is not a good selection for anything other than deterrence value. But you can bet your ass I'm not leaving home without it until the Freepers are safely back in their box.
