Anti-Health Care Reform Protester Encourages Physical Violence, Use Of Firearms
By Brian Beutler - August 7, 2009, 2:20PM

Based on the news that health care events are edging into violence, an anti-health care reform protester in New Mexico named Scott Oskay is calling on his hundreds of online followers to bring firearms to town halls, and to 'badly hurt' SEIU and ACORN counter protesters.

Popularized in part by conservative blogger Michelle Malkin, the hashtag symbol he's using, #iamthemob, has gone viral on twitter, appearing several times a minute according to a recent search.

Anti-reform activists have scheduled a protest outside SEIU Missouri offices tomorrow, and officials there are taking these threats seriously.

Late update: Looks like they're also getting death threats by phone.

20. I would think inciting violence is illegal
But I just checked him out on Twitter and those Tweets are still there. If he had been arrested, I would think the Tweets would be gone.

5. This should be a clear indicator of the lack of desire to enforce the phony 'war on terror'
...when non-violent, anti-war peeps assemble, the riot cops are at the ready.

Yet this seems to be escalating and there's a marked lack of the sort of Establishment response/reaction one might expect in the face of overt threats of violence/murder.

19. I'm getting nervous something tragic is going to happen
Edited on Fri Aug-07-09 03:46 PM by RamboLiberal
And I'm a liberal gun owner. I don't think I'd want to carry my gun in to such a volatile situation. I don't know that I trust my own temperment against this assholes. Not that I'd use my gun against one of them, but if they attacked me having a weapon may be too dangerous for the situation.

Dem congress reps need to make sure they have good security at these meetings. Something bad is going to happen. I just hope it's no worse than a broken nose or a cut lip.

I seriously hope there is no gun violence but if there is, let it be them ending up in jail, not one of us.

23. It is not going to be tragic. It will be necessary.
Nobody pays attention to the right wing until they actually kill someone. Only then will people realize what a menace Republicans and Libertarians are, and turn against them.

I seem to remember an old phrase about how the tree of liberty must occasionally be fertilized with the blood of patriots. Democrats and progressives have forgotten it worse than I have, since they think LTTE's are the only proper response to someone raping and pillaging their country. It isn't.

Putting their lives on the line - or in the case of the few courageous ones, putting their bodies between the armed Glenn Beck believers and innocent lives - is a necessary response.

28. the absolute absurdity of this is mind numbing
they actually want to start a shooting war (not really the right word, but...) over NOT wanting health care.

That's roughly analogous to taking your winning lottery ticket to the 7-11 and threatening to shoot the clerk when he tries to give you the money.

I think there will be blood; one of these right-wing twits is going pull the trigger. Hopefully no-one will get killed or seriously hurt, but it will only take once. But then these town halls will be canceled for the safety of the reps and we will lose one more little piece of democracy to these thugs.
