Anti-Health Care Reform Protester Encourages Physical Violence, Use Of Firearms
By Brian Beutler - August 7, 2009, 2:20PM

Based on the news that health care events are edging into violence, an anti-health care reform protester in New Mexico named Scott Oskay is calling on his hundreds of online followers to bring firearms to town halls, and to 'badly hurt' SEIU and ACORN counter protesters.

1. The GOP isn't anti-healthcare reform, they are anti-healthcare PERIOD.
We need to stop using the GOP's framing.

3. Brandishing is a crime. If you're carrying concealed then nobody will know you have a gun.

7. They can keep them hidden with the concealed carry, then pull them out in the middle of the
meeting and use them.

18. Gunning down people at a town hall meeting will surly bring public opinion to their side.

8. Just curious, who is ScottEO, and how do we know he has
hundreds of followers? And also, is being on TPM enough, is that a monitored site? I'm not being a smart-a**, just want to know WHO in authority is seeing this.
Thanks.

9. Sounds like they're desperate... and it's a long time 'til the end of the month.

Now, when they pull a gun and get their asses arrested (and let's hope no one gets hurt before that happens), how are they going to ramp up the rhetoric then? Just where are they planning to go with this next? Do they understand that they're looking crazier by the minute to the "undecideds" on healthcare?

on edit: I mean, basically these people want to shoot people who think we should have Medicare for everybody? Is that really an appropriate response? Wouldn't "I disagree" be a little bit more in a sane person's ballpark?

shadows and let them take their reichful place as the dictators of policy in our country.

20. I don't advocate staying home out of fear.
If it seemed that was what I was saying, it wasn't what I meant. If there were a town hall in my area, this wouldn't keep me from attending. I might be more apprehensive, but I'd GO. I'm disappointed there aren't any close to where I live, or even within comfortable driving distance.

Regardless of how many or how few Dems show up for town halls, if there are rowdies carrying guns, the likelihood of somebody firing is there where it wasn't before. It's dangerous and stupid, and somebody needs to step up and put a stop to it. That was my thought, though it's my fault for being unclear in a one sentence post.

This may be a wake-up call to the cops, who've seemed pretty hands-off to the 'turfers so far. One can hope that this won't be tolerated, and hope that no one is hurt in the process of handling any 'situations.'

It's so easy for someone to provoke this kind of violence.

19. Now, now, nobody's advocating violence
And ScottEO is just telling people who have a license to carry a weapon to bring it to a meeting. I'm not sure how ScottEO or his pals are going to figure out if someone at a meeting is from ACORN or SEIU, or if the folks they identify as such are there for "disruptive purposes." Maybe carrying a weapon confers some sort of power on a person? I dunno. That would be something to mention in the sales material, I would think.
