Locals taking advantage of stimulus federal funds

Aug. 07, 2009, 11:59 am

The massive $787-billion public stimulus package developed by the Obama administration is being funded by taxpayers across the country, and three young Kankakee men are proof that at least some of this money is putting people to work locally.

Speckled with white exterior paint from head to toe, Kankakeeans Lacteci Porch, 17, Marcus Smith, 18, and Codarius Hawkins, 19, were applying the white coating onto the long-vacated, 4,000-square-foot former McCarty Community Center at 483 N. Greenwood Ave. in Kankakee, now owned by the City of Kankakee.
