Healthcare reform will mandate euthanizing those that cannot contribute to society?
is that right?
Where the wackiest lies make their rounds as if it were fact?

In a new posting on her Facebook account, former Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) made a dire statement about health care reform -- that it could result in an Obama-created "death panel" killing her infant son with Down Syndrome:

The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's "death panel" so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their "level of productivity in society," whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.

Since I readily agree to not having read the entire bill as it stands so far, does anyone know where or what section alludes to gov't mandated euthanasia of babies, invalids, mentally disabled, physically disabled or even elderly people?

3. Palin is seriously deluded. It is her own party that promotes
mandatory euthanasia by denying people medical care.

5. The GOP-controlled media are trying to make themselves look like they give a damn.
Which is why we need to reframe this debate ASAP!

The GOP is anti-healthcare.

Might I suggest that Limpballs, Beck, Savage Winer, Hannity and O'reilly be the first ones into the ovens.

7. My disabled daughter is living proof that they are crazy. It has been
government run programs that have kept her alive her entire 51 years. She is like a 5 month old baby in her ability to act and no one has suggested killing her. I hope that the fools will finally see that only the government run programs would have done this because insurance programs would have denied her coverage years ago. Thank you taxpayers for my daughters life.

10. I heard that there is a provision to allow people to meet with
someone to prepare living wills if they wish, and it will be covered. (I heard this from one of Chris's guests I think).

They took this and turned it into euthanasia. It's freaking insane and Palin just takes it a step farther.

Because she knows what she's talking about.

Why are you reading her stuff and linking it here? Do you really think we haven't all heard this tripe before?

Oh, as for reading the whole bill, right now THERE IS NO BILL! It's still in committee.

Edited on Fri Aug-07-09 06:20 PM by Xicano
Will stand you and your baby in front of a "death-panel" consisting of health care insurers. So even if your dimwitted statement were correct. What's the difference?

15. They're lying, as usual.
They took a part of the bill that limits a patient's out of pocket medical expenses as meaning it limits treatment. That's a stretch even for functionally illiterate right wingers.

Then they took a portion that states doctors can code and charge for sessions counseling living wills and medical power of attorney and called it mandatory doctor counseling to tell old people to die.

Then the religious right, never known for their ability to tell the truth about anything, decided to take it one step farther and call it a euthanasia bill.

These people are not your friends and they're not telling the truth.

Please consider the source in the future.

Just don't be afraid to ask questions on DU. Some of us have actually read a lot of the bill, especially the parts the rabid right is basing their lies on.

16. it simply allows for counseling for
things like a living will every 5 years IF you want it...every time I have ever had surgery a social worker in the hospital comes by to see if I have or want a living will ...I doubt its much different .

Sarah's baby probably knows better....this woman is simply not the sharpest crayon in the box

18. The bill contains a provision
that will allow Dr.s to bill for counseling patients on the availability of Living Wills, through which a patient can take charge of her own end of life planning. Essentially saying, no life support, or no life support under these conditions. No one is mandating that anyone take advantage of this.

There is another line of argument that has not yet fully crystalized but they call it "rationing." Here, it appears, that those who have healthcare currently are afraid that if other people get it, the currently insured will have to wait longer for their health care. Essentially, an "I got mine, I don't want you in my way" sort of argument. Alternatively stated, if you are poor, you deserve to die kind of argument.

If they continue to press this last point, I think you may see class warfare break out in the US.
