Should we have a poll? Will the GOP destroy itself by 2010 or 2012?
We could ask "is it one date or the other?"

OR we could just phrase the question more broadly.. as is, "it's a given it WILL destroy itself...so who cares if it's next year or 3 years hence, but will it, or will it live on as the party of the fools, the uneducated, the superego's, the stupid egos's (Sarah Palin front and center on that one). or will there always be several million people in the USA who cling to their fears and their fantasies so much that reality never will come home for them?

I don't quite know how to construct the poll.

I know the Republican Party we knew in 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992, (when it was dealt a wicked blow by Ross Perot, resulting in Bill Clinton being elected), 1996 (arguably, the last year where they actually had a respectable candidate, in Bob Dole, no I didn't support him, but he's an OK man, IMO)..now we have had 2000, when Bush had the SUPREMES steele an election, (with 500,000 less votes), and then again in 2004, (with Ohio's rain and people waiting to vote who never got to vote and all the machine fraud).

Now we have a roudy Right wing political party, making America look like some third world nation, with death threats, lies, and mob rule of "town meetings"....and Sarah Palin's lies actually getting press.

Republicans now only amount to racists, people who hate Obama, and idiots who have the right to vote.combined with the rich folks who pay for the hooligans.

The Republican Party, the new KKK???

I'm serious....

in 2009, the Republican Party basically self destructed in 8 months AFTER the election..refused to cooperate, refused to debate as well-informed, refused to think a woman Hispanic who loves her background and perspective could be qualified after 20+ years out of SUMMA CUM LAUDE from Princeton, and great accomplishments at Yale Law, and everywhere else in her career,

What made these Republicans shoot themselves in the foot? A few pro Latina comments, next to a stellar scholastic, legal, judicial, and political record, and a clean sexual, political, financial record for over 20 years, oh, and she's a woman, oh, and she's gotten to where she is on hard work........reason enough to disqualify her.....people should only get to positions of power if they are ....

white
male,
well financed in college
willing to bend to corporate interests over personal individual interests
wiling to shake hands and take Republican white men to lunch.

Women, (probably have to be over 60 to be considered), (probably should be white, Christian,)..must not have made speeches inthe last 15 years, or must have only made speeches that celebrated white men.

THOSE ARE, the only women white Republican men in the US Senate want to approve....except a few of them Senators, with a real law degree, and a real history of hard work.

Let's face it, WHITE REPUBLICAN MEN in the US Senate: not really the brightest bulbs in the USA.

2. The more important question is:
Will they destroy the country on their way out?

4. NO, Obama and his army, and his supporters, and his majority in
the House and Senate.

We may see a few racists kill a few liberals, or vice versa, or law enforcement kill a few white racists, happens every few years......sorry to say........only in the USA, not in Canada, or the UK.

We used to lose people for slavery.....for Reconstruction, for the Labor Movement, for Integration, for the right to vote for women, for black folks, etc etc.

The American Civil War is not yet over...SOME AMericans STILL think they deserve privilege....ABOVE someone or dark skin, ABOVE their foolish prejudices.....

Yup....America still has too many nuts who waste their brains trying to look superior, and trying to assert that, indeed, they ARE superior. That's what Republicans are.

3. IMO, the only way for the GOP to survive is to go left of the Dems...
If they change their current stance on issues in order to widen their base, they'll come off more Dem-like. If they want to really shake things up and keep the Republican name alive, going left of the Dems would definitely add to their rolls. Go for gay marriage, go single payer and anything else that's more left than the Dems.

That's after they dump Limpballs, Palin, Romney and the rest of the rotten hacks stinking up the place.

Can you imagine what it would do to the Dems if the repukes went left of them?

5. I don't think you have reconciled left and right, and compared that with
reality.

The left supports national health care, at not cost to all Americans, and no cost to US guests, as is the case in Canada, Mexico, the UK, and all the other nations with compassion on the planet, and the money to be compassionate.

Where and how will the UBER-lords of health care profit, and their foolish supporters come around to seeing that? They don't have a brain to do that...

Please show me HOW the Republicans can go to the left of the Dems........your fantasies welcome..!!!

7. The Dems (the DNC as we know them) are basically centrists...
Edited on Fri Aug-07-09 07:52 PM by cynatnite
That's how they've governed. Clinton has and so far Obama has, too.

The current republican party is mostly filled with racists and RWer's. Their platform is back-wards and they are exclusionary. It shrinks their party and makes them irrelevant. Keeping the status quo is making them obsolete in the 21st century.

If the Repukes want to survive as a party, they have two choices. Widen their appeal which would mean shifting their positions. They could come across as more more centrist like the Dems. Doing that would make them indistinguishable from the Democrats. The second choice is to go farther left than the Dems which would differentiate the two parties.

They would have to dump their current leadership altogether and start bringing in Kucinich and others who are more left than Obama and the Clintons. They would have to vocally come out for gay marriage, single payer, advocate for a complete pullout from Afghanistan, and more. What better way to peel support from Dems than going left of them.

The repubs at one time were the abolitionists who campaigned and fought for freeing the slaves. The Democrats fought it. Historically, there is precedence for political parties coming full circle like this.

Now, it probably won't happen and it more than likely is a fantasy. It's just my own small opinion. That's all.

6. But can someone design a question for my dilemma??
Which is worse? Bob Dole as the last best hope for the Republicans, or

Sarah Palin as the new voice of Republican activism?
