... The White House has now shown itself willing to cave on the two essential elements of real health care reform -- drug price negotiations and having a public option. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/arianna-huffington/is-health-care-reform-abo_b_256127.html
But there's something else, more optimistic, to remember from NCLB. That bill passed the Senate with the seemingly innocuous Santorum Amendment that was a Trojan horse for Intelligent Design. Pro-science people organized and convinced House members and some Senate members (notably Ted Kennedy) of how bad this was, and the amendment was deleted in Conference Committee. The ID Creationists still tried to claim their place in the Trojan horse by noting that the Santorum Amendment was in the Conference Report; but that was true because all discussions, including rejected amendments, could be put into the report -- but the fact remained that the Conference Committee improved the original Senate plan, defeating RW schemes. There are no guarantees, but there is always hope that needed elements of health coverage reform, particularly the public option, can be placed into the final plan via Conference Committee.
