George H.W. Bush was right.. It IS a "vision" thing.

He was wrong about what that vision IS, though.

Republicans see only as far as their wallets, their noses & their own personal concerns.

They see "climate change" as it affects their ability to go fishing in January (not ice fishing, either).

They see it as a great thing, to be able to send cargo ships to the Pacific, via what was recently ice.

The only reason they can see for preserving wildlife, is so there are enough animals & birds for them to hunt.

They see their own health care as a birthright, and to hell with anyone who does not have it.

They see increasing energy costs as a good thing because their 401-k has investments in "energy companies".

Most don't mind mountain tops being lopped off, because not that many of them live there, and the ones who do are probably either poor (their opinions don't matter) or the ones lopping off the tops (making some serious money)

They don't mind immigrants all that much until those immigrants want to do more with their lives than mow lawns, watch kids, wash cars, cook burgers or nail shingles in 100 degree heat.

Republicans are children. Think of any child you know. When a kid goes to the mall with their parents, how often do they "forget" to bring THEIR money. That rarely stops them from asking for (and often, getting) things they need or want...usually with a promise to "pay you back" when they get home.

Republicans focus on the "now".

NOW we need/want a war, because somebody-somewhere did something we don't like.

NOW they need a tax cut, because everything in life should be free, and they should be able to keep every penny they "earn".

They do not remember that the roads they drive on, the schools they went to, the airports they use, the airport safety they count on, the electricity they use....in fact most things they use every day have been subsidized by, if not built entirely by government (taxpayer) money.

They do not care what "other people" need.. they only care about what THEY want/need and have. Everyone else can go to hell.

They like laws that prevent THEM from being hurt in car accidents or from having their homes robbed (police protection), or from fires (firemen)..they trust that the food they buy at grocery stores or restaurants is checked for safety, etc. They expect, and like these things, but do not want to pay for them through taxes.

Democrats have vision too, but it's a different kind of vision.

Democrats focus on the future. the TVA would have never happened without the future being considered, nor would the internet, or the interstate highway system, or many other very expensive (in the NOW) endeavors that we all take little note of.

The TVA, for example, was all about jobs..jobs..jobs.. and more jobs. It was also to develop an area of the country that was devastatingly poor and unhitched from the rest of the country. It was not so that some women in the "hollers" could yak on the phone with each other. It was about opening up commerce, delivering water responsibly, electrifying remote areas, and so much more. in the "moment" it was a very expensive undertaking, BUT it was about the "later on", as much, if not more than it was the "here and now".

Democrats try to set plans in motion that will have long-term benefits. ..benefits for people not even born yet

It's no accident that many of the things we take for granted NOW, were put into place , built and TAXED/paid for , a long time ago.

It's the vision thing.

People at the Me-Me-Mobs, aka town brawl meetings, show us the distinction, as plainly as the nose on their faces.

A lady stands up and says "I'm worried about the young people being able to afford/get/keep health care when they grow up"

Another lady stands up and says " Don't raise my taxes, keep government out of health care (even though she's obviously over 65), and then screams No health care reform".

Which one has vision? Which one is a greedy child, who cannot see past her own nose?

Democrats use binoculars..republicans use magnifying glasses.

5. So True
"Democrats use binoculars..republicans use magnifying glasses."
Nice.

You got to the very essence of what our whole existence on this planet is about, Thinking of what is going to continue the human race for future generations rather than just being comfortable in the now. Patience and logic (logic pertaining to planning for the future) are what stood us apart from the other species and is the sole reason we are were we are today. I think that certain people that are financially well off are more complacent with the way things are, while a poorer man thinks of the future to help him and everyone. Anyways, I agree with what you had to say, and could not of said it better myself.

7. Choices are based either on what one wants or what one thinks is best.
Republicans are in it for what they can get out of it (mine, mine, mine). Liberals are always thinking about what would be best for everyone.
