...experience. Our Congresspeople are finding out, sadly, what teaching is sometimes like...when respect is missing. Thoughts?

4. amen to that!
My first and third grade teachers (Sisters of Mercy????) would have that group of mis-behavers under control in no time....(with very sore palms for the lot of them). None of this nonsense and hooliganism in their classrooms!

2. I agree but no guns in your classroom, I hope. I also thought Obama
took control like a good teacher does and then educated people. What a refreshing change from the prior dunce!

3. If Congresspeople are the teachers, then Obama is the principal
There's more respect for him than your average teacher, even with an unruly crowd.

10. Obama did do very well. A big part of his job...
...is education of the American people. He's very good at it. :patriot:

5. ...and what would elementary school teachers do?
( We really are NOT dealing with adult behavior at these town hall meetings. We need to remember... we are dealing with little (Republican) children having a tantrum)

Welcome back to 2nd Grade!

1. Tell the child that his/her behavior is unacceptable in the classroom. It is rude and disruptive.

2. If you continue your behavior, you need to take a timeout (in the office or other acceptable area) and calm yourself down.

3. When you are calm, and you feel you can behave yourself again within the group, you may return to the classroom.

4. I (teacher and perhaps the entire class) would be happy to listen to your ideas, when you can speak in a respectful, and calm voice. (No name-calling, bullying, or screaming is allowed in this room.)

5. If you want to be respected yourself, you have to be respectful to others.

This works with regular children/people.
DOES NOT work with the mentally ILL.

8. It is like elementary school. And the way to deal with it is...
...to start by clearly stating the rules (for proper behavior) and the consequences for NOT following the rules...and then FOLLOW THROUGH.

It also DOES make a difference if the 'teacher' has respect...as Obama does. Anything that undermines respect makes the job of 'teacher' that much more difficult.

12. Hahah!
I knew that confession would catch up with me!

To all the teachers I've known: No worries... I did retain a lot of what you taught me, I just had to figure it all about for myself:) I'm a very good person despite the rants and rampages of my pre-pubescent self, the hormonal horrors and the ensuing verbal thrashings. I was bored; it's probably not your fault. You had a lot to deal with. My only regret is that you didn't tell me I was 98th percentile across the board... that would have saved me from feeling so stupid when I flunked your class, and perhaps I would have never taken that guilt ridden, completely devoid of self-esteem powered downward spiral.

:)

13. Many of the most challenging (for teachers) students...
...do really well when they grow up. :) Often they were not academically challenged enough...and, like you, got bored.

My own personal children did so. Peace. ;)
