Stupidity + insanity. It's hard to successfully battle that combination.
Watching the Specter townhall, I'm struck by the futility of dealing with inchoate rage. These people are so... not conscious. they're motivated by fear. The only thing to do is what Arlen did: Counter crazy accusations with a blunt response that shut down further comment. In response to a woman who said that on page so and so of the the proposed healthcare reform legislation the gov't would be killing off old folks. He simply retorted that this was a vicious lie and moved on.
4. I think the key is in exposing the real truth behind it.
I really believe that many of these folks fear really stems from cowardice which in turn produces a kill or be killed mentality which in turn makes them lose all reason. Exposure of the root cause of a problem is always my key to battle. I just have to learn to do it in a more tactful way.
5. But then you have the MSM inviting them on for an interview
Katy the "sleeping giant" idiot who was at Specter's town hall yesterday was interviewed on CNN this morning. She was given a lot of softball questions with no follow-up when she displayed her ignorance. The entire interview came across as an attempt to paint these idiots as reasonable and mainstream.
6. painting idiots as reasonable and mainstream is the heart of the problem, imo
because without the enablers -- the MSM -- none of this would have been possible. By treating these ludicrous 'arguments' as valid (which they are not, never have been) the MSM has literally fractured the deep structure of language.
The ONLY way to set us back on course is to slam these bogus statements to the ground right out of the gate. Never allow them to enter the debate. They should be shut down and mocked with extreme prejudice.
