They are going to continue to lie and distort the bill no matter what the truth may be. Bipartisanship is a totally lost cause for this reason. Our only hope for this bill and electoral success it to force the bill down the Repukes' throats and show the American people that this bill is not going to kill Grandma, or any of the other shit they've been spewing.

3. Honestly, we need a general strike.
That's how they get things done in France. They still have them occasionally in Canada. We have to "make" our leaders do the right thing. Obama wasn't kidding when he said "we are" the change. We have to make him give us single payer.

5. Problem is we'd have to cram it down about 35% of the Democratic party's throat too.
I'm afraid at this point Obama requires a political victory. And he's going to get it by taking whatever mishmash of nightmarishly ineffective "reform" is left on the table.

Horrible news for the long term, but he ain't getting re-elected in 2012 without doing it.

10. I disagree. He will get re-elected SO LONG AS he doesn't pass a bad "insurance reform" bill.
This is not 1994. The Republican Party's popularity is in the toilet. Their leaders are insane (reflecting their rabid base). So long as Obama does not piss off 50 million Americans by forcing them to buy worthless insurance that they can not afford, he is safe.

I reject your premise.

8. I agree. Pass it without them. No compromises.
They have proven that they can't engage in a rational debate about it.

9. Oh a "health care" bill will pass without a public option and with
a mandate to purchase care from the insurance companies and the R's STILL won't vote for it. The President needs a win on this politically and will cave to get one. Nothing in his Presidency says otherwise. Yep - that's the change I wanted.

11. I disagree. I do not believe the President "needs" a "win" here.

12. Hardball said yesterday that independents are moving against
the President's health care plan by a 2-1 margin (just a snapshot - subject to change of course). They were 2-1 for his agenda a few months ago. The middle is who decides elections especially in non-safe congressional districts. The blue dogs will bolt and the President will cave if things don't change quickly. Just my opinion/prediction.

13. Hmm ... that's not what I see in the polls.
I see democrats and independents holding steady. The Republicans, it seems, are moving further away from Obama. According to Gallup:

14. The poll they were discussing was of independents concerning the
health care plan. Not approval rating. Sorry if I was not clear in my post. The President is down 4 points among independents according to your posted poll and still quite high. I wonder how those numbers look in blue dog congressional districts though. That is my point.
