5. Cell phones are beginning to be a real menace
I'm assuming an ATC was not talking on his work phone.

I'm really tired of people talking, texting, etc. while they are supposed to be responsible for heavy machinery. We've seen this happen with cars, trains, and now airplanes. It's sickening, the disrespect for human life.

13. These guys were caught breaking some rules
during the crash. They had absolutely nothing to do with the crash.

The pilot of the plane didn't see the copter and crashed into it.

Pilot error. Simple as that.

Only one guy to blame and he's dead.

That is all.

15. Not to minimize the tragedy, but you're absolutely right. It had nothing to do with the crash.
Edited on Thu Aug-13-09 09:58 PM by MercutioATC
The controller wasn't working either aircraft at the timke of the crash, nor could he have done anything to prevent it.

The investigation, however, revealed that he was on the phone at the time the two planes (that he wasn't talking to) crashed.

It's a violation of regulations to be talking on the phone while on position, and he should be disciplined for that...but it had absolutely NOTHING to do with the crash.

17. Thank you, I just wanted the others to realize that.
We throw blame around so quickly.

Of course the ATC guy could have said, "Hey asshat, don't make any climbing turns into your blind spot in high traffic areas", but I doubt that's in his job description.
