The GOP's Misplaced Rage. by Bruce Bartlett

Leading conservative economist Bruce Bartlett writes that the
Obama-hating town-hall mobs have it wrong—the person they
should be angry with left the White House seven months ago.

by Bruce Bartlett

Where is the evidence that everything would be better if
Republicans were in charge? Does anyone believe the economy
would be growing faster or that unemployment would be lower
today if John McCain had won the election? I know of no
economist who holds that view. The economy is like an ocean
liner that turns only very slowly. The gross domestic product
and the level of employment would be pretty much the same
today under any conceivable set of policies enacted since
Barack Obama’s inauguration.

In January, the Congressional Budget Office projected a
deficit this year of $1.2 trillion before Obama took office,
with no estimate for actions he might take. To a large extent,
the CBO’s estimate simply represented the $482 billion deficit
projected by the Bush administration in last summer’s budget
review, plus the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program,
which George W. Bush rammed through Congress in September over
strenuous conservative objections. Thus the vast bulk of this
year’s currently estimated $1.8 trillion deficit was
determined by Bush’s policies, not Obama’s.

I think conservative anger is misplaced. To a large extent,
Obama is only cleaning up messes created by Bush. This is not
to say Obama hasn’t made mistakes himself, but even they can
be blamed on Bush insofar as Bush’s incompetence led to the
election of a Democrat. If he had done half as good a job as
most Republicans have talked themselves into believing he did,
McCain would have won easily.

2. I always wonder, when people say "I want my country back,"
what they are they talking about? Nobody mentions shrub, but they certainly can't be referring to the 7 months under Obama...can they??? Do they want the shrub years back???

3. I know, it's kind of surreal isn't it?

I don't think they have any idea what they want or what reality is. For some, it's just having a black president that freaks them out. For others, they only know what Fox and Limbaugh tell them. So they're convinced the world has turned upside down in the last few months.

But, hope you're doing well, Suich!

4. I'm doing fine, 20score, thank you!
It is, however, getting more difficult to explain things going on in the US to my Canadian relatives! I mean, c'mon: birthers, deathers, turfers, Beck?????

6. Here's A Hint My Friend...
They called Obama racist, even before he stepped foot in office.

They called Obama racist, after he been in office.

They called Sotomayor racist, before she got her nomination to the Surpreme Court.

They called Sotomator a racist, after she got nominated to the Supreme Court.

Put 2 and 2 together and you'll know exactly what they mean by "I want my country back."

7. K & R, the CBO breakdown is important.
We can't let right wingers get away with pretending that it's not Republican presidents who are responsible for most of our national debt.

Reagan tripled the debt, borrowing more money than all presidents before him, from George Washington to Jimmy Carter, combined. Bush II borrowed more than Reagan. Up to the point of Obama's election, over 70% of the national debt was created by just 3 Republican presidents.

9. Is he kidding? it's perfectly placed (by the RW opinion makers). the idiots
that swallow this bilge are the ones employing said fauxtrage on a scale perhaps not seen since....yes, I'll say it, Weimar Germany.

the Armeys, Luntzes, Gringriches, Steeles, or whoever else one cares to put on the list of opinion leaders (of course the most recognizable ones are those seen on TV and heard on the radio, cause that's where the mouthbreathers get their marching orders) aren't stupid. they've been playing these marks off against their better interests since they first discovered and tapped the wellspring of mass ignorance during the Reagan junta.

just ask Mike Deaver and Lynn Nofziger...oops, you can't....they're dead

you could as Mark Hertsgaard, or read his book, On Bended Knee, which places the blame for this SQUARE on the mark: the mainstream media

other great books, including one on the Beatles, one on global warming
