Woodstock constipation

Woodstock Never Existed
(Do you?)
Hey kid? Wanna make some money? No---it’s not about selling dope or dirty pictures. It’s about selling the past--A million-dollar industry: Nostalgia! The so-called “baby boomers” that are suffering from old age, disease, and alienation from advanced technology, yearns for simpler times. This can be readily provided in various forms, like coffee table books, video documentaries, CDs, DVDs, autobiographies and other forms of communication.
Oh boy--here it comes! The anniversary of the accidental rock fest at which a whole bunch of middle class kids just happened to amass in one location: August 15th will mark the 40th anniversary of that arts & crafts concert known as “Woodstock!”
Woodstock has been a subject of exaggeration, myth, and profit making. Somehow, in the minds of scholars, this event marked the end of the counter-culture. Actually, it was Altamont’s free concert on December 6, 1969 and the horrifying events at Kent State on May 4th, 1970 that placed the final nails in the coffins of rebellious baby boomers. I went to Altamont, and I aint bragging about it.
It all makes me wonder what Karl Rove, Dick Cheney, George Bush Jr., and Donald Rumsfeld were doing during that period. After all, it was the “Age of Aquarius,” the “Greening of America.” You’d think that, with all the positive energy floating in the air, these baby boomer knuckleheads would have caught a little vibe! Then, there are the reactionary, potbellied white guys who used to indulge in dope, fucking, and Rock n Roll in the streets. They missed the whole point of hippiedom! It wasn’t about partying; it was about an alternative life style--and I’m not talking about sex here. The phrase, “Tune in, turn on, and drop out!” didn’t mean ditching gym class to go ball your girlfriend in her apartment! Many of those longhaired freaks morphed into bikers, red-necked gun freaks, Right wing radio broadcasters, computer nerds, and NeoCons or rich republican assholes. These freaks wrote it all off as youthful indiscretion, while their Gen X successors used the baby boomer past for ridicule.
Most of the so-called “Astroturf hecklers” that are now invading town hall meetings on health care reform are baby boomers that need money, so they play pretend protestors to make some cash. When they were young, they didn’t really comprehend political science; they don’t even know their left from their right. They genuflect to the man while their minds can’t distinguish between corporate greed and government of the people. Why? Because they are fucking stupid!
Oh well! In the old days, it was not cool or groovy to judge people. But, for me, it’s become a useful political and economic tool.
I’m glad I didn’t go Woodstock! To me, the spirit of sharing with your neighbor in the mud is not my idea of making a cultural statement. Woodstock? Who cares!

27. And to think, a mere pause for a glass of water (or a paragraph)
could have eased the pain as well as the excretion.

4. one of the stupidest, most asinine articles I've seen here, and that's saying a lot.
reads like one of the worst of the right wing chain emails

I'm sure the stupid asshole who wrote the insipid garbage doesn't know, for instance, that Rumsfeld had just been named head of Nixon's OEO (look it up, idiots who like this trash), and one of his first hires....Dick Cheney

It's always entertaining when someone shows up and starts making blanket pronouncements about this place-- within 10 minutes.

9. That's valid.
I associate back wards BB caps with 'I just took a dump in my pants' pants.

They look great together. Especially at raping & looting events.

Oh, at 'fight for my right to party' demonstrations, too.

This concert spawned the "hyper-clubbin' Spring Breaker" movement currently plaguing society.

13. Clueless
The OP reads as if it were written by a team of self-loathing Republicon Homelanders, who are STILL envious -- after 40 years -- of the love and beauty and joy that were Woodstock.

Get a life. Or get thee to the Republicon Family Values House of Chickenhawkery and Perversion on C Street.

14. If You Weren't Around Then, You Can't Truly Understand It
The beauty of Woodstock very soon gave way to the nightmare at Altamont.

One can't write about one without the other. Both represented the best and worst of the 1960s.

31. Blah blah, bleh.
The media hypes everything for money.

Which means nothing when it comes to the original event.

D-Day is hyped, Pearl Harbor is hyped, JFK assassination is hyped, moon landing is hyped.

None of this means the history is unimportant or without value.

It is up to later observers to find meaning in historical memory.

Some approach history thoughtfully, critically, and with a string commitment to understanding.

Others post stuff like this.

PS. I'm glad you didn't go to Woodstock too.

There were enough bad trips for the Hog Farm to deal with as it was.
