Who is funding the Afghan Taliban? You don’t want to know
Source: Reuters

KABUL — It is the open secret no one wants to talk about, the unwelcome truth that most prefer to hide. In Afghanistan, one of the richest sources of Taliban funding is the foreign assistance coming into the country.

Virtually every major project includes a healthy cut for the insurgents. Call it protection money, call it extortion, or, as the Taliban themselves prefer to term it, “spoils of war,” the fact remains that international donors, primarily the United States, are to a large extent financing their own enemy.

“Everyone knows this is going on,” said one U.S. Embassy official, speaking privately.

A shadowy office in Kabul houses the Taliban contracts officer, who examines proposals and negotiates with organizational hierarchies for a percentage. He will not speak to, or even meet with, a journalist, but sources who have spoken with him and who have seen documents say that the process is quite professional.

Not very surprising, of course if they are behind both sides of the War on Drugs why wouldn't they be behind both sides of the War on Terroism?
Terroism is business and War is business.

There's no such thing as war, just war profiteering!

1. ..sort of like Blackwater smuggling in arms to
sell to the insurgents. Yes, the MIC (military-industrial-complex) has been creating its own wars now for a while.

8. Or the "Cocaine Import Agency"
Should we be shocked when the record crops of heroin start showing up in the heartland?

I'm not looking forward to the day when we see "Heroin Busts 2/1 Over Meth", but I think it's coming.

and big oil, to name a few.

You more than double your profit by selling to both sides.

4. Apocryphal story from pre-Great War Europe. . .
where Krupp Armaments is said to have sold the French army on the concept of armor for their vehicles. The French eagerly embraced the idea and ordered great numbers of trucks and assorted staff cars. Krupp then went to the Germans and said "Hey, look, armor-piercing shells!" And the rest, as they say, is history (especially so for the flabbergasted French soldiers in their "impenetrable" vehicles).
