Woman Denies Putting Child In Oven

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A Central Florida mother accused in January of placing her child in an oven and turning it on was given two years probation in a plea deal, a judge ruled Wednesday.

Along with probation, Sharlyn Singh, 29, must complete a mandatory parenting class and undergo counseling after she pleaded guilty to one charge of child abuse, Local 6 News reported.

Singh could have been sentenced to five years in prison, according to the judge, Lisa Munyon.

Morris Naraidoo, the now 1-year-old baby's uncle, told police in January that he was in the process of helping his brother move out of Singh's apartment on Kirkman Road because they were breaking up. He said he heard the baby crying and found the child in the oven.

2. Glad she's getting some help instead of pointless incarceration.
Your post reminded me of a story a much much older guy told me once. He was born in rural Maine in the 30's and was born totally premature.

His folks put him in a shoe box in the oven and he grew up to be an average sized man. They never went to parenting classes but that was clearly an entirely different deal.

Both bizarro stories though.

4. Or she's properly medicated if it's post partum psychosis
which is something that is cruelly underdiagnosed in this country, thanks to for profit medicine a lot of new mothers can't afford.

6. I agree with PPP and PPD being underdiagnosed
But I read that she had substance abuse problems and was upset because she was breaking up.

5. reminds me of my mom-
she was born in 1916, premature- my grama had peritonitis, so dealing with all those things, my mom was put in a shoebox in the attic to die. They both recovered, but-----

The only difference to the last story was my mom never forgave my grama--everything that went wrong in my mom's life was my grama's fault--everything!

That time in the attic apparently screwed up her brain! SERIESLY, how come I turned out okay? heh heh

7. Oh, yes. A parenting class is exactly what's needed here.
Probably nobody ever told her not to put her baby in an oven and turn it on. How was she supposed to know that without a parenting class?

Excuse me while I go vomit.

Well lets see,
Perhaps she was so badly abused by her husband she couldn't think straight
perhaps she was so fed up with her awful life
maybe she was accused of having a "substance abuse problem" (who uses language like that?)
Really what sane person puts their child in an oven?
Obviously there is much more going on here This seems to be a wonderful opportunity for a
typically salacious gossipy news story probably enhanced to appeal to "real life" aficionados
