1. It's that time of year.
Wonder if we'll get any rain this time in Austin. Last year 3 hurricanes hit TX and here in Austin we got 0.01 inch of rain-one of the reasons we are in Extreme Drought condition.

2. We've had water restrictions since last week
On THursday night I noticed that the stray female we feed brought her two young kittens on our patio. I told hubby a good shower of rain was coming and it rained most of yesterday and right through the night.

We need some more and while I hate Tropical storms, we sure need the rain

3. This is what we're going through
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124872939604384837.html

The lake level is the third lowest in history and closing on second. They just closed all the public boat ramps. Everything is brown-normal for August but it's been like that all year. We only average 30 inches of rain a year and we're about that far behind in total rainfall from the last 2 1/2 years.

15. Steve Lyon just said that the system behind Ana
is the one to watch and that it may be named TS Bill later today.
That's further South and way more likely to be trouble for me and Gulf states.

5. It's kinda late in the year for a hurricane
Edited on Sat Aug-15-09 05:52 AM by DainBramaged
I remember them starting in late May and into June most recently.

11. Ahh, right you are
Excerpt from NWS website:

"The season, which began June 1, is entering its historical peak period of August through October, when most storms form."

10. August and September are typically the most active.
June storms are not so common and usually not as powerful as the storms later in the season.

12. Yeah, Don't Forget 1992
Edited on Sat Aug-15-09 06:53 AM by iamjoy
In 1992, the Atlantic didn't have its first named storm until August 17, so we're a couple of days early. ;)

Oh, and for those of you who don't remember, that name of that little storm - ANDREW

17. Well, if you want them up there,
you're welcome to them. We want nothing to do with them down here, thanks.
