"How do we get the stroke to (convince) all these people of our God and our guns and our freedom?"
(No shit - from a guy at one of Tom Coburn's town halls in Oklahoma yesterday. Sheesh.)

Due to the times they were held, I couldn't make either one of the Tom Coburn town halls in my area yesterday BUT according to the local news I saw, each was a sea of angry/scared/old white people... One or two faces of color but I mean that's IT.

Some standout quotes from various local media:

From Tulsa World:
At Jenks, a man said, "Most people in here know that Oklahoma ain't the problem. (Jim) Inhofe ain't the problem. (John) Sullivan ain't the problem. There's 49 other states out there. How do we get the stroke to (convince) all these people of our God and our guns and our freedom?"
He was cheered, loud and long.

From the Tulsa World vid at http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/article.aspx?subjectid=16&articleid=20090815_16_A1_SenTom339196&allcom=1&sortcom=r :
about 2:42 in, a woman in glasses starts talking about why not give the Democrats a chance and a HUGE chorus of Boos erupts - and catch the looks on the faces around her, if you can... classy folks!

Notable quotes from the KOTV story http://www.newson6.com/Global/story.asp?S=10930329:
(bold in following text is from story)
near the beginning:
"What can we do to stop this movement towards a Socialist style control of our lives?" asked one man.

Senator Coburn left no doubt that he doesn't like it either.

further on, a very distressed guy (about to cry) sez: "Where is our Judicial system when it's allowed Obama to tread upon our Constitution as if it isn't even there?"
"We need to be holding Congress accountable, not the president, the president is elected for four years and the Congress is elected to hold him in check," said Coburn

(And so Coburn treats those as VALID goddamn questions...)

And from KJRH-TV story http://www.kjrh.com/content/news/2viewgc/story/Senator-Coburn-answers-health-reform-questions/y_ugsa4waUCQx790994_rw.cspx :

...Oklahomans for Health Insurance Reform believe a government-run option is needed to lower premiums. Members of that group were at the meeting holding pro-Obama signs.
"It was scary because I was threatened," said Ann Kent. "A man behind me wanted to slap my face."
Kent moved to a different seat and the event remained civil. Many in the crowd felt reassured by the Republican senator's responses.

SHE had to move because the old bastard in back of her wanted to slap her face! SHE had to move.

I get the creepy feeling (and I don't think I'm exaggerating much) that if someone had called a KKK meeting, these same crowds would've shown up (except for the few from MoveOn and OHIR, and like the woman that almost got slapped!)

(Hope this isn't too hard to read, my apologies if it is...)

1. This country is circling the drain. We really are.
And these idiots represent the dirty water rushing down the drain, taking the rest of the water with it.

Ok, terrible metaphor. But I'm just so tired of these fools.

5. I like the metaphor. Actually since most Americans live along the
coast, we should encourage any inland progressives to move to a coastal state. Then we should flush away the center of America.

On second thought, that's way too cruel. That's what they did to NOLA. Nope, re-education camps are what we need!

2. America is too dumb to live.
I don't think we're gonna get out of this as any form of a democracy.

I'm not sure we even deserve it.

16. Ever see the film Idiocracy? This is exactly how the film begins.
The idiots breed and breed and breed. The intelligent, responsible people... less breeding. Hence, we have townhallers and birthers. :eyes:

11. OK is a problem. They are taking $1.36 for every $1 of Fed taxes they pay.
I'm tired of subsidizing these fools who are too stupid to understand they could not exist without them there godless, unarmed, and dictatorial highly populated blue states. Someone should explain to them that they are pretty much a welfare state.

They want to control everything, but they don't want to pay their fair share.

17. Meant to add (too late to add by Edit) -
From Tulsa World article: "He said Obama secretly agrees with him on much of health-care reform. Coburn also said, though, that Obama is committed to a single-payer Medicare-type system, something Coburn unalterably opposes." How can Obama "scretly agree" with him yet still be committed to a single-payer system (which we all know is NOT the case - though I wish it were...)?
Coburn tries to come across as sounding reasonable, but the crazy keeps shining through.
