Woodstock Couple From Album Cover Identified & Still Together

"The country faced tremendous turmoil forty years ago today, but Woodstock brought together 500,000 young people on August 15-18, 1969, including one couple that was photographed among the masses. Today, Bobby and Nick Ercoline, the two hippies hugging each other under a soggy, dirty blanket in a sea of people, are still together, and the proud parents of two grown children, aged 28 and 30. The couple, now aged 60, live in the same town as they did then, Pine Bush.

maybe the broadest of brushes. We were not all peace and love. There were plenty of "macho" men who volunteered for Vietnam 'cause they wanted to kill "gooks." It wasn't just old people who used the phrase, "America, Love it or Leave it." And then there is this:

The "Summer of Love" did not last long. It ended at Altamont California, December 6, 1969. It ended with Hendricks September 18,1970 and a month later with Janis October 4, 1970.

As fond as I am of that short period of time I wonder what did we accomplish that was lasting. And remember that it was not just an American thing, it was a worldwide movement. How could something with such energy just be a flash in the pan?

Sure somethings changed but the what about real change. People here at DU complain about Obama not moving fast enough to effect real change-well I'm here to tell you it don't come easy - especially with the forces of inertia marshaled against you.

Oysters and clams have very strong muscles to keep their shells closed. Starfish are very weak but if a starfish is in the mood for an Oyster dinner, it just wraps its arms around the shell and exerts its tiny pull. Eventually the oyster gives up and the starfish is full of oyster. It is the steady force no matter how weak that will cause real change.

There is a Latin phrase that is a good motto, Illegitimis nil carborundum - Don't let the bastards grind you down but the converse is also very true - Grind the bastards down. It's a slow process but tried and true.

Rebelled and joined the counterculture. It was a minority.

I think it changed a lot of things. Not Woodstock specifically, but the movement (starting in 1966) that made Woodstock happen. It helped stop the Vietnam War; it changed attitudes toward sex; it started us on the road to where society could accept gays; it broke the grip of unquestioning patriotism that had been in place since the world war; it opened up questions about blind following of organized religion, etc.

Sure, nothing changes overnight, but it was like when sled dogs break loose the ice holding the sled frozen in place. A huge force is required just to break it free. But then it can move.

I would guess that they are Obama supporters.

According to the articles: She is a school nurse who started a food pantry. He inspects houses of the poor earmarked for renovation by the government.

It may well have been Bobbie (I couldn't remember her name) but I always thought that was me and my blanket after a soggy night sharing cheap red wine and body warmth (nothing more - really Nick) with a young woman separated from her friends that first night ... we huddled, hugged, and went our sepaarte ways in the (still wet) morning
