Maddow Battles Dick Armey In "Meet The Press" Debut
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/16/maddow-battles-dick-armey_n_260549.html

Rachel Maddow appeared on "Meet the Press" for the first time on Sunday, August 16th. On a panel with former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.), former House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-Texas), and Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), the MSNBC host more than held her own.

When Armey said he took no responsibility "whatsoever" for the virulent protests against President Obama and compared it to MoveOn.org running an ad comparing President Bush to Hitler, Maddow pointed out that that never actually happened. Later she elaborated, pointing out that major conservative groups had speakers going around the country comparing Obama to Hitler, Pol Pot and Stalin and asking supporters to put the fear of God in their congresspeople. When Armey said that he denounced violence, Maddow pointed out that his organization, FreedomWorks, was in a coalition whose website was promoting the violent fight at a Tampa town hall as a good thing.

1. It would be pretty easy to get Armey flustered.
He's a real misogynist and has demonstrated it on TV previously. Remember what he did to Joan Walsh from salon.com.

2. Penis Navy was clearly uncomfortable
Although he did respond once to Rachel's question, he would never look at her, and he sat there with a shit eaten grin on his face the entire time she spoke.

What stood out for me during the entire discussion was the contrast between dances with rove gregory and Rachel as journalists. It's quite obvious that Rachel grasps the true meaning of what it means to be a reporter. What is worse, I believe gregory understands that as well but he lacks the courage to practice it. He should be ashamed of his performance and she should be the host of MTP.

17. They hauled Tom DeLay out a few times recently. Apparently they see he just doesn't seem
to merge with the modern world without a whole fascist regime to back him up.

Once they lose the "power" they get from being in office, and in the majority, they really seem to fizzle, since they don't have any intelligence, or personalities.

When they try to act menacing, to intimidate people, they discover sometimes no one's watching in dread, no one's shaking in his/her boots, and their aggressive, insinuating attempt to intimidate makes them look comical. The threat of force was all they ever had going for them, and it was only temporary.

6. Their desperation is truly amusing.

I don't know why these clowns even try. They are downright pathetic.

Seems like most goppers would be embarrassed by their conduct.

WAAAH!! No fair!!

10. Dick Armey is terrified of women with brains
They reduce him to a sniveling, whining little boy whose mommy caught him lying.

When Joan Walsh, from Salon, had him squirming trying to deny that Rush Limbaugh is now the leader of the Republican Party, he resorted to telling her that he was so glad she 'could never be his wife' because he'd have to listen her ramblings if that were the case. How utterly stupid can someone get. She responded that 'that makes two of us' and Tweety, who never saw a loud, obnoxious Republican he didn't like, remained silent until someone else pointed out that Armey should have been held accountable for that ridiculous remark. Tweety then made sure to say how much he liked Armey, big surprise, before weakly conceding that his remark was 'inappropriate'.

He could not look Rachel in the eye because he cannot fool intelligent women the way he can fool good ol' boys like Tweety (with whom he probably shares 'wife' jokes in private).

The hosts of all these shows should start these discussions with full disclosure of who is funding these creeps. I didn't see the show yet, but was Dick Armey asked how much money he is being paid to organize the anti-Obama tea-baggers and who is paying him to kill any kind of healtcare reform? The public has a right to know who these jerks are working for and that should be the first question they are asked, both Democrats and Republicans ...

Good thing Rachel was there. Daschel sat like a widdle puppy and said nothing at all after his first prepared speech. God he's useless.

I am in awe of how Rachel can keep her cool and stick to the facts in the face of that much blatant misogyny. That body language from Armey was stunning. And the flat out lies he spews that he is not called on. "We just heard it's ok when Moveon.org compares Bush to Hitler" (paraphrasing) No douchnozzel, you did not just hear that.

And they have no idea why the "grassroots" :eyes: movement has gotten so riled up. Goodness sakes!

Rachel gives me the fire to keep fighting, when it really seems to be utterly polarized at this point. She's not giving up, I'm not giving up. I hope there are enough sane and reasonable people left to cut through this pile of lies and hate and get something done. I also hold out hope that as the extreme right gets more bold and shows their true colors, more moderates will flee in disgust.

Edit to fix eye roll before laptop battery dies...

16. She did?
Did you watch it? She was over ther reading about Armey's group and he said it wasn't true that it was on another web site and they were wrong.

So bottom line, think about who watches MTP and tell me that Rachel impressed them and made any points for out side.

19. What did you expect her to do?
She directly confronted lies being told by Dick Army and Tom Coburn, and backed them up with facts.
She was given very little time while Army was allowed to ramble on and on.

Rachael has been a very good spokesperson for The Left, I felt she did a good job in a hostile environment.

You think she should have screamed and yelled?

20. She got talked over because
she interrupted Armey. Daschle and Coburn went and then Armey and she did not let him finish. Game over. Facts, do you realloy think anybody is sitting around saying she really had command of the facts (reading) or are they saying the 4 old white haired, inside the beltway guys sure handled whoever that was.

Look, I love RM and watch her show everyday, but she lost badly.

18. The real headline should have been: "Armey admits he believes Medicare is tyranny"
Armey's stand against Social Security and Medicare should be made clear to foolish seniors at the town halls who have been whipped up by him and his ilk to act like asses to rail against their own best interests and in support of the insurance industry.

They need to understand that the leader of their "cause for liberty and freedom" would destroy the Medicare that they are so adamantly screaming at Obama to keep his socialist hands off of.

That admission was the headline. Huffington Post falls down on the job again, along with the rest of the media. I bet Rachel won't though.
