So why do you think Republicans are pushing for "consumer choice" in being able to buy insurance
across state lines?

This seems to be a point that Democrats are totally missing.

They want this "insurance deform" so that, like credit cards and banks do now, insurance companies can all relocate to the few states that will bid the highest for them by allowing the most pro-business/ anti-consumer laws to exist so that they can maximize thier pofits and minimize their liability and regulation.

1. Not just that.
Some states, NY for example, mandate coverage for many things, which makes for expensive coverage but you are more likely to actually get treatment. The insurance companies want to be able to sell junk insurance across state lines so that they capture market share with "cheap" plans that cover little and put the comprehensive plans out of business, so eventually all health insurance is crap.

4. Yes, and when they are only fighting a few companies and states that
try to deliver a good and fair poduct to the consumer, it will be much easier to kill those plans. It allows them to concentrate thier resources on a smaller foe than the one they have now.

3. Because they oppose state's rights?

They MUST oppose the rights of state's to regulate industries within their states.

5. They are addressing it as consumer choice to purchase insurance across state lines
When in reality, what they are after is the rights of insurance compaines (to sell to consumers in other states). Then they all move to the "right" states that will let them get away with murder.

Consumers in most states will actually lose the choice of purchasing insurance that has any real reguation governing it.

7. The other problem
is that this will increase the paperwork for healthcare providers because they will have to contend with a much larger number of insurance companies. We need to reduce red tape, not increase it.
