TELL DEMOCRATS: AMERICANS DEMAND A PUBLIC OPTION!
Edited on Sun Aug-16-09 04:37 PM by grassfed
Healthcare reform is at a crossroads.
Democrats are beginning to back down on the promise of healthcare reform that includes a strong public option. We need a public option because it lowers costs and provides real competition to the health industry.

Worse, Democrats continue to work with Republicans who, yet again, want to kill any reform.

Not this time. 40 million Americans need coverage. Make your voice heard!

3. Do you realize that email addies can be found from this site?
Click on "email" after a name on the list and your own email program opens and shows the signer's email addie.

Ummmmmm...no way I want my email going out for the RW freaks to get if they find that site.

Bad way to do this, IMO.

Kucinich had the right Idea...bring it in state by state... might take a while, but if they passed a bill saying that the stats had the right to bring in Universal Health Care, then it would be easier to slide it in under the feet of big insurance...

6. That makes so much sense -- I didn't know that he'd
advocated a State by State approach. I like it!

8. I THINK THAT'S WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO
California needs to do something to turn things around; if employers knew they wouldn't have to pay insurance because California has a public option, they'd move here pretty damn quick.

16. D'oh! I'm sure it's been discussed but reading your post made it actually sink
in that employers could afford to hire more workers if they didn't have to pay the exorbitant insurance premiums. It seems like such a win-win!

Pragmatically, I do understand that it probably wouldn't be wise to totally dismantle -- or severely cut back on -- such a large industry like Insurance, but I think I recall Kucinich saying that his plan took that into account.

But yeah! This just seems so RIGHT!

10. Coulda been Dean, but
I think it was Dennis. I like that guy. That's how they did it in Canada, Tommy Douglas brought it in in Saskatchewan, and it spread from there like wild fire, once the Doctors saw it was the way to go, and the rest of the country wanted it. http://www.saskndp.com/history/mouseland.php3

14. I like Dennis, too -- and I remember thinking he was making sense about
this during the campaign, in that he laid out a way that this could work without all the insurance industry employees losing their jobs. Not that I remember the specifics, but it was obvious he'd put a lot of research and thought into it.

Dean's been saying some great stuff on this topic, too! I'd be happy as hell if Obama just handed the entire problem over to him and said "Here. Do it." The damn politics get in the way.
