Forget congress- EVERYONE CONTACT THE WHITE HOUSE
Edited on Sun Aug-16-09 05:34 PM by Capn Sunshine
Everyone needs to put the heat on the White House. We need to flood their system. I know for a fact THEY are listening. Not so sure about Congress and Senate.

If everyone who voted for Obama would take a second and email the White House, they'd wake up really f_ing quick.

Here's the link to the White House Email.

quit bitching and do it.

Keeping that old FAX machine churning should help as well. I did get this on google and haven't tried it yet as I won't have access to a FAX machine until tomorrow so I hope it's accurate.

Dear Mr. President:

I appreciate your courage in tackling needed health "insurance" reform in the United States. As a liberal Democrat, I wish to express my utter disdain and frustration with the bills currently working their way through Congress. None of what has been proposed is acceptable to me. We need single-payer "Medicare for all," and I do not believe the proposed plans, except HB 676, can get us there. In fact, it seems the result of passing "insurance reform" at the moment would be to strengthen the private insurance companies by giving them nearly 50 million new customers, all of whom must buy their products or become criminals. Passing such a bill will strengthen the insurance companies which, in turn, will make it much harder for us to get single-payer in the long run.

I would rather Democrats pass no bill than to pass any bill with the "individual mandate." No person, just for being alive, should be forced to buy anything, much less be forced to purchase the product of a vampiric insurance company.

Forcing people to buy insurance is no more the solution to a failed health care system than forcing people to buy houses is the solution to homelessness. In fact, that is insane, and passing such a law can only hurt the Democratic Party in the long run as millions of uninsured people are forced to pay a whopping new tax to buy an inferior product that will only help the insurance industry. Please drop this issue, for now, if you lack the will or the votes to give us real reform.

Thank you for your service to our country and for your attention to my concerns.

Respectfully,

Good suggestion, OP. Thanks.

25. Here's my Letter
There better be a Public Option for Americans if you hope on being re-elected. Right now there is rumor online about you, Mr. President putting on a "Dog-and-Pony Show". If this is true and you along with the Democratic Party, which is in the majority, cannot pass reform with a Public Option, the Democratic Party itself will become irrelevant to average Americans, not just on the "left" but in the middle as well.

Do not assume the GOP is so disliked that you will win next time without us. You won't...

The bullying we see at Town Halls Meetings is being orchestrated by powerful interests who do not want reform or a public option. They are a pathetic minority. Just because we are not screaming, yelling and harassing you doesn't mean we do not exist. You make a severe error in judgement by using them as a out... we are not fools.

I as a voter am throwing down the gauntlet... after years of giving into powerful, wealthy interests, this government better do so something for "We the People"... that something is in the form of a Public Option. If you don't, a majority of Americans will walk away from the Democratic Party. So the question remains, who do you work for?!

32. here is the fax we sent
08-16-09

Dear Sirs,

As people who have been repeatedly victimized by the current Health Care and Insurance system in America, we are very displeased with the White House decision to cow down to the oppressive Republican minority and abandon the plan for Public Option in favor of medical co-ops.

Our disappointment with the current White House position is so strong, we will abandon our much-beloved Democratic party and not support, financially or through our efforts, the current President’s bid for reelection.

We are not alone in our decision. It feels like only months within your term you forgot to listen to the people who elected you. What a shame! Many people are suffering because of lack of insurance, don’t ever forget that.

When Secretary Sebelius came out on State of the Union this morning, we were stunned and appalled with what we were hearing. We have no words to express how betrayed we feel. If she made a mistake, then the President needs to come out and correct her statements immediately.

Sincerely,

37. I'm sorry, I have to disagree. Right now the issue is in Congress,
until they come up with something to sign, Obama/WH is not in a position do to anymore than he is. Let him know what you think is important and why, but I think tone down the screaming (all caps) and the attitude. If we seem no more rational than the deathers, he'll have every reason to ignore our thoughts and words due to our presentation. Remember Obama isn't the MSM, he actually listens to rational, peaceful discussion.

47. While I agree that President Obama isn't
The one making HIR law, it can't hurt to do a massive WH campaign ensuring that we define what's important to us - single payer and/or public option.

Better to be active than reactive, although all the reactive hysteria over any and every media appearance or report that the WH is backing away from SP and/or PubOp is as disturbing as all the stupid crazies and their Town Hall disruptions and death panel lies.

Wasn't it either last Thursday or Friday when President Obama at a Town Hall expressly insisted on PubOp? Yet 2 or 3 days later, people are hysterical over something someone else in the Admin said, as if the President can control what others say or do.

Didn't Gibbs release a statement saying that the WH was still committed to a PubOp a day or so ago? I saw a rec'd diary on dKos about it just this morn.

Seems to me that to go on hysterical rants indicates doubt about the President's veracity, in spite of his constant and consistent emphatic statements that he's on our side. This is not only troubling, but also terribly defeatist.

Our hard won success last winter ought to have taught us at least one thing - getting people to change/do the right thing isn't easy - but it's infinitely doable, even when it's the Congress critters (excluding the rethugs). As for the misinformation of the media - have y'all forgotten that they're also shilling for rethugs and lobbyists? Don't y'all realize that they're just as corrupt in many cases as the opposition? The President has given us no reason to doubt his commitment, yet it is so easy for so many to distrust him.

I saw the same kind of rampant hysteria during the campaign - either he didn't do or say what others felt he should or people just generally second guessed every campaign move he made although he was winning; These actions may indicate doubts not only of his commitment and competency, but about the President's character, IMO.

Old habits die hard, I suppose, after 8 long, dismal years of tyranny such that, sometimes, we're President Obama's worse enemies with all the edgy ranting and distrust. It's actually kind of appalling.

K and R.

49. So that's the plan?
You can't put the heat on the White House by such "messaging" as they have already told you in a thousand ways you are not who they are listening to. How much clearer can this get?

The only solution is a massive march on DC and people occupying offices. Everything else has been attempted.

And do tell not only how it is you know for a fact that they are listening but do tell in detail what you know about how they will act even if 50 million phone calls occurred this week.

51. well, here's the deal
I worked in the campaign, I'm a Democratic Party operative and I have background on this. I forget that not everyone knows me here anymore. Trust me, the noise from this has been minimal up to now. That's why I'm here asking You, and everyone else, to push back. They need the ammo to go up against the lobbyists. They haven't gotten anywhere near the pressure they need to justify blowing off the Blue Dogs. White house Email is a great place to start. We're looking to tune up MoveOn for this too.

Marches Maybe Next week. Stay tuned.

50. Do both-- I just wrote this
Dear Mr. President,
Thank you for your work in changing America for the better. I am writing to ask you to more strongly make the case for the Public Option. Whether or not it ultimately succeeds will have much to do with what you say. I am working on behalf of your policies by asking my Representatives (such as Senator Feinstein) to support you. It is my belief that without a very strong competitor, the health insurance industry will continue to cause the US economy to sputter as more and more of our GDP is devoted to health care.

58. My letter
(My read is Obama is going to continue to say he's for the public option, but will accept a bill without it, and that will kill the campaign for it.)

You can forget about getting any support from me again unless you straighten yourselves out. I'm mad that Obama is dumping the public option.

You've caved to the right wing and you will never get back on your feet again. They've seen they can make you cave. Now they are drunk with the success of their vandalism. They'll only get worse.

The public option wasn't just the most important part of health care, it was the only important part. Forcing insurance companies to enroll people who are already sick is unfair to the insurance companies and will encourage people not to buy insurance until they have problems. You've traded that for promising to subsidize millions of people's private insurance policies. The reason people are losing patience with you is that you've bailed out banks and auto companies. Now you are giving a giant bailout to the insurance industry. Why not just let the insurance companies reject who they want and find their own customers who have their own money? With no alternative for the public left, what's to stop them from demanding larger and larger government handouts? All you are doing now is turning the rest of the public against you. You've made the same crooked deals with pharmaceutical companies. The government should be able to negotiate lower drug prices for the drugs it buys. How could you trade away that?

The fairest way to deal with people with severe pre-existing conditions is to allow them to join a public plan. The risk should be spread though taxes, not by making others pay more for their health care.

You also got yourselves and the rest of this mess in the first place by conceding the idea of simply expanding medicare and letting people buy in. Polls show what the public wants most from health care reform is cost savings. Medicare could provide health care for far less than private insurance. It pays lower fees and has lower administrative costs. Expanding medicare would provide proven savings. The people who scared the country with lies about death panels and other problems wouldn't have been able to do it if all that was being done was an expansion of medicare. People know what medicare is and trust it. Competition from expanded medicare would have forced private insurance companies to provide better quality or lower prices.

That one simple plan, expanding medicare, would have accomplished all the main objectives. Why wasn't it done that way in the first place? Medical providers probably didn't like lower fees. Insurance companies didn't want competition. So you've traded away to those people too. What do you have left? Nothing that anybody can support. You've traded away all the advantages of public health care for the support of groups that only were after their own advantages and never could have stopped a good plan for expanding medicare. Those groups are no help to you now. You have nothing left to sell.

Scrap everything and go back to the beginning and just try to expand medicare. Its your only hope.

and are more impactive in great numbers...a group of us hand delivered stacks of hand addressed post cards to some of our reps in DC; multiple inches thick stacks of postcards did widen eyes, truly. Phone calls second (local office is better), emails last. I do think any action is better than no action, however!!

Many examples of how people are currently having their care decided upon insurance companies motivated by profit should have been used. Such examples would have made those angrily against reform look like THE town idiodt. To have let faux outrage rule the debate was unfortunate.

73. Here's mine -- and I'll send it to my congresscritters as well
I used the ampersand character because of the character-count limit.
Gods, actually writing about my son's recent medical crisis made me cry for the first time. The bills haven't come in yet for his hospital stay, CAT scan, MRI, MRA, EEG, heart tests -- and he doesn't know yet how much his insurance will or won't cover. Of course it would be nice if the neurologist actually figures out what went wrong, too... In the meantime, the anti-seizure meds do seem to be helping, and his girlfriend is giving him a lift to work since his license has been revoked for 3 months.

Hekate

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear President Obama:
Aloha nui loa. I want to begin by saying how much faith I have in you & your intentions. We share a common background in that we both grew up in Hawaii, & altho I relocated to Santa Barbara 30 years ago Hawaii marked me for life, as I believe it did you.
Second, I want to say with great urgency that we must have a robust public option for health care in this country, & that it must be available to all who want to enroll, making it a true competitor with the for-profit insurance companies. My husband & I are within 4 years of being eligible for Medicare – but it is past time for the US to have Medicare For All.
What truly compels me to write to you is the situation of my 31 year old son. He works full time, is enrolled in college, owns a home with an underwater mortgage. He can ride out this recession. He has his entire future before him.
But he has just been diagnosed with complex partial seizures.
He's okay, his attitude is excellent. His neurologist is working on figuring out why this is happening. He will be okay – as long as he remains employed in his current job. If not – then you & I know he is uninsurable, & that his medical costs could ruin him financially.
As a mother I admit that when I allow myself to think of this it scares me spitless. A thousand what-ifs come into my mind.
As a nation we cannot continue to allow accessibility to health care to be tied to an employer's ability or willingness to pay for insurance. On the one hand it is simply immoral to abandon people to unregulated market forces for one of the absolute necessities of life. On the other hand it stifles creative energies in a most un-American way by shackling people to jobs they have outgrown.
Please do not stop with mere “insurance reform.” Please lean on Congress to bring the US into the 21st century to do what every other industrialized nation managed to do in the 20th century: make sure that health care is accessible to everyone
Mahalo nui loa.
I am thinking that, a little different from the trial balloon concept, the administration might be making noises about backing off the public option in order to mobilize proponents thereof. Ya think?
Hey: I also came up with (I think) a great new argument for the administration; one I've not heard them use; tell me what you think:
To all the Congress folks who call themselves "pro-life": how can you stand against health reform in the US, when our current system results in LOWER infant mortality and SHORTER life span than many if not most/all other industrialized nations?
I think we can turn their BS pro-life arguments against them, using their opposition to health care reform to demonstrate their hypocrisy.
Has anyone else heard this argument? Is that what the Terry Schiavo references were about earlier this weekend?
86. Just did it again...
After reading Thom Hartman's simple proposal (see commondreams.org) to open Medicare up to voluntary enrollment. It's already in place. Lower income folks would be subsidized by higher premiums by voluntary enrollees (those under age 62 /62). It would be revenue neutral. So simple. So logical. So realistic. Oh yeah...it'll never fly...
Worth a try, anyway. Hope they'll check it out.
It is incumbent on the Democratic majority to pass health care reform with a viable public option.
If the Democratic majority decides to represent the insurance lobby at the expense of the American people the Democrats will return to minority status.
As a life long Democrat and disabled veteran, I will not donate, nor will I work to get Democrats elected if the insurance lobby has its way with this legislation that is vital to economic stability and national security.
Dear Mr. President,
I’m writing to urge you to announce your intention to veto any Health Care Reform bill without a viable Public Option. The United States must begin quickly working toward a Universal Single Payer Health Care system in order to remain competitive with the rest of the industrialized world.
Anything less will be seen as acquiescence to the insurance industry and a betrayal of the citizens who gave you their vote.
Sincerely,
MindPilot
If you drop the Public Option you will lose the faith of Americans like me, and We are Legion.
129. Done.
I've sent my senators and congresspeople numerous messages in support of Single Payer Now.
So now I've let President Obama know how strongly I endorse that concept.
We have now seen very clearly once again how interested the Republicans are in compromise--zero percent. They are willing to spend millions through right wing PR groups fanning dangerous flames of fear and hatred to defeat the public option. They have gone too far but have been able to rely on our conservative-owned broadcast media conglomerates to support their pretense that the town hall shout-downs are genuine "grass roots" events. Thank goodness we have a few token liberal news shows that are exposing the multi-million dollar campaigns to protect privatized medicine.
I want Single Payer Now, as close to HR 676 as we can get. We average people need our bailout. We are quite desperate.
I have experienced the deep security one feels under a national health plan. When living abroad I was covered by such a plan. The health-for-profit industries don't want the public to feel that deep comfort. Neither do the Republicans. They know people will be grateful to the Democrats for decades if they free us from the horrible insecurity we now have-- of bankruptcy or homelessness if we get too sick.
I know the power of millions in campaign funding must be very strong because Democrats have so often caved in to it, even while knowing how much we need help and would appreciate them for admitting that healthcare is a right and not a privilege. Knowing we would love Democrats for a long time for helping us hasn't been enough for most of them to do the moral, ethically correct thing and extend Medicare to all. It saddens me as a citizen to know Democrats have rested on the-- "so who else are they going to vote for-- right wing nut job Republicans?" Rather than doing a great thing that would make us very grateful as giving us Social Security and Medicare did.
I do not want employer tied health insurance because it puts me at a distinct disadvantage. I am an older worker and insurance companies discriminate against older workers by charging a company 300% more to insure me than a younger worker. Even if they can deduct those expenses later, the initial monthly outlay is very large for a nonprofit or smaller business to handle. Employer tied health insurance really encourages age discrimination. Are my 25 years of solid work experience and good references really worth them having to pay 300% more for my insurance? Is that why so many job ads are seeking workers with "2 or 3 years experience" these days? I would have a much better chance in the job market if I had my single payer medical care.
The healthcare profiteers against Single Payer or a meaningful public option seem to like the coop concept-- either as another way to delay reform or something that can be made too expensive and complex and defeat that pesky reform talk for a long time.
The Medical Industrial Complex knew that the August recess could be dangerous. The American public could be discussing the elephant in the living room-- The for-profit healthcare industries HAVE FAILED MISERABLY TO PROVE THEIR CASE since the last time they stomped out national health insurance in the 90's. They have failed. Things have gone from bad to worse. We could have been spending August talking about the many problems with the current system and how they told us last time that the private sector could manage itself and things have gotten much worse.
So they engineered this shout-down campaign with "grass roots" organizations that have "been around for years" (just dormant during the destructive Bush-Cheney Regime) to create a major distraction from the for-profit medical insurance system's complete failure to initiate any "voluntary reforms."
The for-profit medical industries have shown their willingness to spend millions and risk inflaming desperate public sentiment just to protect their billions in profits and divert the discussion from their failures. Enough is enough-- Single Payer Now !!
Furthermore, if these dangerous tactics win on smashing the most effective public options, the right wing will celebrate and go on to use the same shout-downs to defeat much needed environmental reform. We have a lot more tough choices ahead of us and don't want these dangerous lunatics to keep going with their social engineering to see if they can get people to storm the townhalls to defeat measures to curb further atmospheric deterioration.
----------------------------------------------
P.S. I can also see other PR angles and wonder why they aren't utilized-- like the old saw about the ingenuity of American business. Why can't we push the angle that the for-profit medical insurance companies are run by brilliant CEOs who have been worth millions in salaries, so surely those extremely valuable leaders will find ways of re-engineering their businesses to serve the public, even after Single Payer passes.
133. Done, here's what I sent, and intend to write a letter to Baucus, et. al, too..
Dear Mr. President:
I voted for you proudly. I continue to support you proudly, and I have always accepted the pragmatic necessity of political compromise. I'm a lifelong Democrat because I believe that my party has always demonstrated a faith in real solutions and a feeling heart--as you do. But I must tell you that if a meaningful public option in health care is abandoned by my party, it will be painfully clear to me that Democrats, like Republicans, have abandoned the Constitutional requirement that our leaders "promote the general welfare." Abandoned it in favor of the narrow, selfish agendas of the powerful and monied in this country. If this happens, I, in turn will abandon my beloved party and my obligation to participate in the process. It's not a big threat. I'm just one voter and my contributions to political campaigns have been small, certainly compared to those of the insurance companies. But I know I'm not alone in this feeling, and our country cannot afford to lose the participation of those, like me, who have, up to now, had faith in our system. Please don't force us to lose that faith. Please fight with everything you have for the public option.
Thank you.
Here's mine:
"Recent marks by Secretary Sebelius have drawn into question this administration's support for the public option in health care reform. I am writing to express support for such reform, because I know it would be better to pass a real health care reform bull with only Democratic support than it would to pass a bipartisan bill that failed to address the problems underlying the increasing cost of health care in this country, most of which can be laid at the door of the insurance industry.
I'm sure you have folks there who are well versed in the compelling reasons for single-payer health care or, failing that, the "public option." As a political scientist, a lifelong Democrat, and an Obama supporter, it seems to me that this administration is headed in the wrong direction on health care reform. It seems as though there is much concern for the concerns raised by angry, crazy folks who have been very vocal, but there's also been a failure to address who these people are. These are the Brooks Brothers rioters and the George Wallace people, folks who would never, ever, ever vote for any Democrat, let alone this president. The tactic they use out of desperation is the same one upon which they have always relied, which is to call Democratic policies "socialist." These same folks--and yes, they are the very same folks--have felt the same way about integration, the metric system, Hollywood, the State Department, Medicare and fluoridated water. By labeling these things "socialist," they have managed to avoid having to actually present any substantive argument, which is lucky for them, because they don't have one.
If the administration caves to the tactics of these loudmouthed outside activists being bussed from event to event around the country, we can count upon this tactic being used again and again. The thing to do here is to do the right thing, and not to seek a rasonable accommodation with the minority, because it is impossible to get a reasonable consensus solution from folks uninterested in reason or consensus."
148. I sent this email just now...
Dear President Obama,
We all wept with joy when you were elected this last November. But now, many of us are inwardly weeping to see that the promised health care reform is now becoming 'health insurance' reform.
You must know how desperate people are, especially those without voice: the poor, the elderly, the marginalized individuals who need health care reform the most, but from whom you probably will not hear. I speak for them and myself when I ask, no, by now I am begging: WE NEED SINGLE PAYER UNIVERSAL health care NOW.
I cannot stress enough how I feel we are at the turning point here, and any compromises with the RW fringe, and most dastardly, the BIG INSURANCE companies, are non-productive, and really blocking true reform.
Do not fall prey to the idea that health coops or not-for profit insurance is enough of a sweeping reform. I have good health insurance from my employer (a school) and it is non-profit. The cost of family insurance is now $1600 a month~nearly 40% of my salary! I could not afford it if I was laid off!
Please stay strong, and know that we need affordable and TRUE health care reform. Medicare for all would be the best. Insurance companies could still sell us supplemental plans and stay in business, and everyone would be covered.
PLEASE! Don't let this moment pass. WE elected you to get real reform, and to cover all Americans. I like the fact that the whole pre-existing condition problem would be done away with, but that is meaningless if it means that an insurance company can drain your savings for premiums.
Still counting on you,
Lydia Gnos
My message:
"Recently I have been hearing on the news that Pres Obama is considering the drop of the public option from the healthcare proposal. I supported Pres Obama during the campaign and contributed, helped man the local phone bank.
I have been very disappointed with his handling of this issue. My first choice was the single payer option. I felt that it was the ONLY plan that was in the best interest of the American people. There were some individuals opposed but I felt most of the opposition came from the special interests.
I was dismayed at the beginning when Pres Obama did the initial work with the insurance and drug companies involved in all the discussions. I became even more upset when I heard rumors about a "deal" with those same special interests to get their support. I feel like it is we the people whose support is needed.
As far as I am concerned this latest compromise is totally unacceptable. I will be contacing my Congressman and Senators later today to voice my displeasure. If the final bill does not contain a public option, I will not vote or support anyone who votes for it or signs it.
Pres Obama might look to the situation Pres L Johnson put himself into in 1968.
Even though it is not relevant to this discussion, I feel that Pres Obama's appointments to date for his staff and cabinet are far from stellar. The SC pick was excellent, Mr Geihtner and Summers, far from."
Inslee, Murray and Cantwell are next. I hadn't planned on going to Inslee's townhall on the 29th. Rethinking that plan.
160. Done. My letter.
Dear Mr. President Barack,
I'm writing to you in the hope that you will do everything in your power to put the pressure on congress and INSIST that a public option is a key portion of the health reform bill that is currently being crafted and debated.
You have a very influential position in more ways than one, and at the same time you face constant opposition and distortion campaigns from large contingents who will do anything they can to disrupt and block health reform.
The one thing that you have that your opposition does not have, Mr. President, is that you won the recent election with an overwhelming majority and with the support of millions of people who will continue to INSIST on a public option being a crucial element of this reform effort.
If you cannot guarantee that a public option is included and if you cannot INSIST on it being an non-negotiable element, I'm not sure my generation (I'm 30 years old) will ever have the chance to see this kind of reform ever again.
I have been dealing with extended health issues for the past two and a half years. I was forced onto disability and to leave a job where I was making $125k/year, I was forced to sell my home, and I was forced to move back with my parents where I have been since. I understand the personal difficulties and failures with the current health care system.
I went undiagnosed for more than one and a half years while seeing specialists at Stanford University and other hospitals. I was finally diagnosed by an infectious disease specialist with late-Lyme disease complex which includes a host of viral and bacterial infections. Lyme is a very politicized disease, and it's really a conversation in its own, but my experience has proven to me that our system is in need of serious help and reform in many more ways than one.
At only 30, and having become sick at 27, this is something I never imagined I would deal with at this phase of my life, but as is life, things happen, and rather than letting them dictate how you live, I prefer to learn from the experiences and understand new perspectives from them. One of the unique opportunities that this experience presented me with was to be able to, on a daily basis, follow your campaign for presidency, your triumph in the election, and your progress as president.
I donated to your campaign, made phone calls from home since I couldn't be out knocking on doors, and I believed and supported your message of HOPE and that YES WE CAN achieve what many consider the unachievable.
Right now I am asking you to remember the fire and passion your supporters showed during those months leading up to the election. The persistent pressure we applied to the opposition and the energy we all put into electing you so that our world and our lives could have a chance to improve in ways we never thought possible resonated loudly for millions of us.
My father considers JFK an idol, he constantly compared you to JFK during the primaries and election, and in the end, he, like millions of others believed he saw in you a candidate who stood for what is right and who put it all on the line for the greater good rather than for the money machines out there fighting for control through persuasion.
Mr. President, YES YOU CAN make this happen. YES YOU CAN INSIST on a public option. YES YOU CAN change millions of lives for the better. I believe you know what is right, and I understand that you face a formidable opposition, but YES YOU CAN achieve reform with a public option, and YES YOU CAN be remembered as one of the greatest presidents our country has been graced with.
You have my continued support, Mr. President, but as with anyone I admire and consider capable of achieving great feats, my expectations are extremely high. YES YOU CAN live up to them. YES YOU CAN INSIST on a public option. It's worth it. You know it's worth it.
Best of my luck and wishes for good health to your and your beautiful family!
For what it's worth, here's my email:
Dear President Obama,
I, as I hope many of my fellow Americans, am writing to you as it seems contact with our elected representatives is falling on deaf ears. They are way too concerned about pleasing each other and their insurance industry sponsors to do the right thing by their constituents. They also seem to be gutless is standing up to the radical elements disrupting their town hall meetings.
Health care reform is too important to be left to their bickering. Please, please, please, DON'T compromise on the public option. You're not going to get any Republican votes anyway...why bother trying to get them to make any agreement? All they're going to do is water this down to the point where it's reform in name only, and then they still won't vote for it. Their goal is confusion and keeping the status quo. How much did the Republicans get Democrats involved in anything when they held the reins? I'm a teacher, and if I was filling out a report card on them, believe me, "Does not play well with others" would be in capital letters. Their attitude that you either do things their way, or they will make your life miserable should be obvious by now.
I live in Nevada, and Harry Reid should be ashamed of himself for letting this reform get dragged out...this should have been done before the August recess. As for the "blue dog" democrats who are also doing their best to cloud the waters...well, I hope they get their butts handed to them when they're up for election again. And I really hope they Democratic Party reminds their constituents how they voted on this. Maybe we can get some real Democrats (like yourself) in office.
Listen to the First Lady...she's smart and will always give you good advice. Look into your daughter's eyes and try to imagine them without insurance. And it wouldn't hurt to listen to Howard Dean, either.
185. K&R&Written
For whatever it's worth, I implored, as a middle aged woman, as a mother, as a mental health practitioner, as a voter, and as someone who's still holding onto a last shred of hope that we can join the rest of the civilized world.
191. Done.
President Obama,
I am a lifelong Democrat. I am uninsured. My disappointment in the Democratic Party has been growing since 2006. The party's majorities have upheld right wing policies that have eroded the foundations of our country, abandoned Democratic ideals, and have become representation not for the People of this country, but for the corporations. Health care reform is my line in the sand. If meaningful reform is not passed, such as a Medicare-for-all type plan, my time, votes, money, and support will go to a third party as there is no difference between Republicans and Democrats (with a few exceptions for progressive candidates such as Rep. Weiner and Rep. Kucinich).
I know I am only one vote, but many more feel as I do - we are not abandoning the Party, the Party has abandoned us. This email is my final plea to please do something meaningful for the People of this nation - health care should be a right, not a priveledge
