Up to nine out of 10 American bank notes bear traces of cocaine, research has shown. In some large US cities evidence of "dirty money" is even stronger. Analysis of bank notes from Washington DC, home to Congress and the US Presidency, were the most contaminated, with 95 per cent of them carrying minute amounts of the Schedule II (Class A in Britain) drug.

The study was the biggest ever undertaken of cocaine contamination of bank notes. Paper money can pick up cocaine particles directly from users snorting the drug through rolled up bills, or from the handling of cash during drug deals. Contamination can spread when bills are stacked together or run through counting machines.

Scientists tested bank notes from more than 30 cities in the US, Canada, Brazil, China and Japan. They found "alarming" evidence of cocaine contamination in many areas. The US and Canada had the highest levels, with an average contamination rate of between 85 per cent and 90 per cent. China and Japan had the lowest rates of 20 per cent and 12 per cent.

3. Start drug testing all the suits
starting with Congress.

If they're going to be punitive about the use of drugs, they need to clean their own houses up first.

12. I was in Miami then..
the "cocaine cowboy" days were just starting to roll good then. When Miami was flooded with blow we had $40 grams, $75 8-balls and $500 ounces. I've seen kilos range from $10,000 to $26,000...

I don't miss those days and I feel damned lucky I survived them. When I quit, I had a $1000/day habit. 'Breakfast' was a half gram and 3 glasses of vodka & orange juice, then I was ready to face the day...

I lost a lot of friends to the "business", too:

This is the second in a two-part series. See the first installment at New Times Broward-Palm Beach.

"I haven't been to this area in nearly 15 years," says John P. Contini as he looks for the site where his former client, Gil Fernandez Jr., executed three men and dumped their bodies in 1983.

It's a cool December morning, and Contini, a 48-year-old criminal defense attorney with white hair and a gentle demeanor, is traveling down U.S. 27 on a 20-mile trip from his home in Weston to a spot of marshland just south of the Broward County line.

On April 1, 1983, Fernandez made a similar drive on U.S. 27, which runs along the edge of the Everglades. At the time a Miami cop and competitive bodybuilder, Fernandez was with two fellow bodybuilders in a white 1980 Grand Prix. Also in the car were three blindfolded, bound, and gagged drug dealers — Richard Robertson, 26, Walter Leahy Jr., 25, and Alfred Tringali, 31. Fernandez took the three men to a secluded canal and shot them to death.

Ghost's comments: I don't believe Gil Fernandez is guilty of murdering my friends. I've written to John P Contini, but haven't gotten a reply yet. Parts of this story are wholly untrue. Dickie, Wally & Alfred weren't killed in ripoff *for* their coke, they were killed because they *got* ripped off in a deal where the coke was fronted to them. They KNEW they were gonna die. They had no way of paying for the coke that they got ripped off for. Some of us tried to help them, but it was too late.

R.I.P. Dickie, Wally & Al .... you're gone, but NEVER forgotten. Ives Estates, and Sally's, was never the same...

Peace,

Ghost

11. If cocaine is on the bills you've handled the bills that means it has gotten to your
mouth where it would be injested. So why haven't I noticed? LOL!
