Wait a minute, time out for a sec...

My Yahoo News ticker tells me today that the public option in the healthcare reform package may be dead "...due to Republican opposition." The AP is telling us the same thing. Too much Republican opposition folks. Can't do it. Sorry.

Excuse me? Republican opposition? Really?

Are you telling me that a minority of 40 Senators can stop a major initiative of the President, supported by a majorities in both the House and Senate? And are you additionally telling me that if such minority makes enough noise in public they can sway others, both in and out of government, to abandon a major public policy change? Are you saying that a vocal and determined sizable minority can have a real impact, especially in preventing unwanted government actions?

Who knew?

Imagine if we had known about this at the start of the Iraq war.

Imagine if we had known about this before FISA passed.

Imagine if we had known about this before Military Commissions passed.

Imagine if we had known about this before so much of the Bush agenda rolled through an evenly divided Congress like the Germans rolling through Poland.

But then.... who knew? :shrug:
