My letter to the McLaughlin Group
Dear Mr. McLaughlin,

I watched your show this weekend and in the health care segment, I counted only one panelist, Eleanor Clift, that suggested there was a problem our health care system. I counted four panelists who simply railed against government healthcare and the current effort to reform health care with nary a specific reason or reference to actual policy. It should be noted that the one panelist supporting reform had a husband who died from a prolonged illness. Perhaps that's why she had to point out to the other panelists that patients and families are often not treated well by the insurance industry. The other panelists gave the impression that think of this bill in terms of whether it will require a separate conversation with their CPA.

I don't know what kind of bubble you four live in, but as a person at the mercy of my insurance company and with a preexisting condition from birth which will exclude me from any other insurance, I found your panel woefully uninformed and out of touch (in that four members seemed not to acknowledge or realize any problem with the current system --other than covering 47 million uninsured will cost too much). I should add that the several minutes spent discussing a purported secret plan of Obama to take over the healthcare system was particularly vacuous.

If you set out to produce a show that fairly represented what most wealthy Washington insiders think of America then Mission Accomplished! You've done that. I should also mention that despite four members of your panel opposed to health care reform, those four members discussed less policy than your one panelist in favor of reform. Mean feat!

As John says with each episode, "Bye Bye!". I've seen enough of your show (have watched regularly since the 1980's when I was in high school no less!). Yes, the quality of your show has decreased demonstrably in recent years, but I still checked in. Forget it. I'm done.

Sincerely,

"Creekdog"

1. I had a friend who interviewed to work for McLaughlin.
As she sat in his secretary's office waiting to meet him, he got on the loud speaker and berated a worker. My friend ran out of there.

2. Jack Germond was a great panelist and he quit
the description of what he told McLaughlin a decade ago applies even more strongly today.

10. Jack said he did the show for the money. Paid for daughter's college and med school.
That was a hefty tab, even in the '90s.

I miss Jack.

4. "Wrong!
Eleanor-gee-I-think-you're-swelleanor!"

Give McLaughlin a break. After all, everyone else is insane and trying to steal his magic bag.

5. Good letter. I used to like the show for a time when they didn't shout so much or
take themselves so seriously. It had sort of funny kind of campy feel.

Now? Its clearly a biased program in favor of anyone but Obama. Frankly, I just decided I had better things to do with my time than listen to a bunch of bitching from people who would never listen to me. The show is shrill, partisan and does not seem interested in providing information. You know its bad when even Pat Buchannan makes more sense than McLaughlin. The blonde is downright nasty to the other panelists and that too is disturbing to me as a viewer.

Hard to understand how this show continues as a PBS program. I think you should include PBS management and your local station in your letter.

14. I stopped watching also. Except for Elinor
the others always made me think they were auditioning for an off off Broadway play.

16. yes she is
she's dumb as a post. once on the show she said that Christians believe as the bible says which is that "God helps those who help themselves".

oh well, i see why she didn't become a Christian Pastor, bombing the entrance exam and all. :eyes:

18. You Are So Right OP
Today's show was dispicable.

Eleanor is a true soldier...every week she's holding up the fort.

She's small and old but she's strong as an Ox!
