2. LOL (not about your mom!)
That's too funny. I wish I would have thought to include it in the OP.

3. Well, I thought of him, and I remember where I was when he died
I was a (female) construction laborer, and there were a lot of burly dudes around me who were pretty near tears that day.

10. I bet today Elvis would be a liberal!
Edited on Mon Aug-17-09 01:36 AM by ControlledDemolition
I recall reading that he gave a brand new Cadillac to an African American lady he saw through a car showroom dealership whilst he was buying Xmas presents for friends and family. He bought the lady a Cadillac!

Elvis will always be a great man (even though he shook Nixon's Bush-lovin' hand).

14. Hard to say given the fact that Elvis tried to become a federal agent under Nixon

8. Oooh, that's why there was an Elvis marathon
I watched a bunch of movies earlier today. I just did not connect it. It was every bit as shocking and tragic as MJ's death, no question about that. They'll probably do a big 40th Anniversary though.

12. Just watched "King Creole" his best film when he was still too cool, BEFORE he went into the Army
Edited on Mon Aug-17-09 02:44 AM by GreenTea
when he came back his coolness was made into bubblegum bullshit movies & soundtracks for the rest of his career....But before the Army the dude was truly hot & cool! 1958 King Creole (tonight on Turner Classic Movies) proved that.

Elvis got a two month's extension to finish up the film before he went into the army and left for Germany. But came back tame as a puppy dog and I suppose accepted it, (rock N roll was relatively new & probably not sure what his future held) to make gobs of money which he and the Colonel certainly did, and then those silly pathetic over-blown tours late in his career....But before the army, WOW!

13. I also like 'Flaming Star'. If he had starred in 'A Star is Born' instead of Chris Cristopherson...?
By the way I am not trying to take anything away from CC.

Q3JR4
Also, I see dead people, bigfoot and the loch ness monster are real, aliens exist, and the earth is only 6000 or 10000 years old (depending on which crazy you talk to).

On a more serious note:

I didn't even know the year he died let alone the month and day. You learn something new every day.
