Why is * trying to get a General to oversee
the two wars? Isn't the military supposed to have civilian leadership?

3. drowning man grasping at straws
Edited on Wed Apr-11-07 10:33 PM by frogcycle
the wheels started coming off even before the election, now its a train wreck

we've all been saying he is an incompetant boob wh screwed up everything he ever tried in life - it has come to pass -he is shit out of ideas - he's the decider but he doesn't know what to decide

I think when Gonzo tanked was the last straw - as long as he had gonzo telling him he could do whatever he wanted, he had confidence. now he knows he's drowning.

4. Apparently he hasn't had any takers for this "new" position.
Perhaps because:
A) it's bogus!
B) who wants to be responsible for those messes!
C) he's an idiot & everybody knows it!

9. What I meant was, the President is
Commander in Chief because I believe the constitution requires a civilian to be in charge of the military. How can he be looking for a General to fill this position?

14. olbermann asked
(forget his name - WH corresp) why Colin Powell's name was not being floated for the position

He answered quite straightforwardly - "from my interviews with people in the know, you would only select Colin Powell if you wanted to pull All the troops out RIGHT NOW"

8. Civilian leadership. You're talking about ...
the OLD US of A. Actually, I think he's tired of being "Commander in Chief", so he's outsourcing that particular responsibility. And also, he hopes, the blame.

17. Because the Paraguay Chapel Ranch has LOTS of brush to cut.
This actually is quite worrisome, that he wants to pawn all of his massive, orchestrated catastrophe off onto what's left of our military.

* is acting like the criminal he is... while the alarms are blasting and the swat teams are swooping in, he's still busting jewelry display cases on the way out to the getaway car.

Bu$h knows a General will fall on his sword and take all the blame for this fiasco because they worship the ground he walks on, and then bu$h can take a long vacation at his pig farm in Crawford!

20. I think that this is a very, very frightening development.
I see this as the real evidence of a collapse - not only of the Presidency, but of Bush, personally. He is really going off the rails with all of this opposition to him and his "policies". He is losing it, big time (to coin a phrase), and this is the most dangerous time in our nation's history. Right now, the way our government is put together, we are in the thrall of a man who is coming apart at the seams; and he is surrounded by sycophants who have no lives apart from serving and sucking up to this deranged, unraveling, little man. We are in trouble, and I can't help but feel that it is more trouble than we, as a nation, have ever seen...

24. you are only describing what has been comingf or a long time
Edited on Wed Apr-11-07 11:01 PM by frogcycle
I have written repeatedly that we will face an extra-constitutional emergency

there is no remedy on the books for what is coming

just as no president had ever resigned when Nixon did it, we will see history made

i just don't know what it will be, and whether we will weather it

back then Ford stepped in in a reasonably smooth transition, cleaned up somewhat, and rode it out

we need the entire administration gone. We can't have cheney taking over. if the right things were to occur, somehow bush and cheney would be relieved of command and Pelosi would be president (I wrote a fanciful blog about that two years ago)

But that would inflame the right no end, and in our polarized condition, i don't know that we'd get through it. It would certainly be a test. Maybe not quite as big a test as in 1860, but, then again - who knows? We might end up with a domestic insurgency - dems would be the Shia, and the RW would be the Sunnis, car-bombing right and left. Sound absurd? Think about it. Who was the Unibomber? What happened to the Federal Building in Ok City?

I'm not saying chaos and anarchy WILL ensue, but the prospect is out there.

Maybe if we could get Colin Powell appointed VP, then get bush out, and Powell would withdraw the troops, that would appease the right...

25. I agree Dhalgren.
This specific issue is, of course, a classic off-loading of the problem - trying to get a fall guy in place who the administration can blame when the whole mess finally implodes. Guess no intelligent general is willing to perform for the Decider. I'm sure there's a Master Sargent or Corporal that could be talked into the role, though.

Your comment on him "losing it" is quite true. In fact, I have to say Bush has held up remarkably well to date. Considering how vilified he is and the intense, multi-faceted pressure of the mounting expose into the criminal enterprise, he's scaring me with his ability to ignore the critics and maintain his incredibly stupid tact of thumbing his nose at Congress. There are real crimes against the Constitution; crimes of the highest order being committed with his approval. I wonder what actions such a person is capable of undertaking to avoid accountability and justice being rightfully served. Frankly, impeachment may be the only recourse for Congress to keep him from damaging our country further.

27. And you have put your finger directly on the scariest part of this ugly saga:
"I wonder what actions such a person is capable of." That is what is so unnerving about all of this. What wouldn't Bush do? And if he "decided" to do the unthinkable, who would stop him? We always hope and pray that some patriotic underling would step up and do his/her duty and stop the cretin from doing the ultimate damage, but that is a mighty thin hope. This is what makes for sleepless nights...

28. I expect that there are discussions along these very lines
when it comes down to it, he can't do much of anything on his own. he can only give orders.

And as bad as various illegal orders on various topics are, the only really scary - immediate-scary ones, are military.

There are enough rumblings about discontent in high places that I strongly suspect there are contingency plans in place. That is, if CiC issues order to (do x) the following group will convene immediately to decide if it is an illegal order, and what action to take if that is the determination. It is actually their constitutional obligation.

From what little I know of a certain former chairman of joint chiefs and sect of state, who got royally bamboozled (not without guilt) into getting us into this mess, I would expect such plans to be ready to roll on a moments notice.
