TD Ana and that hot water in the Gulf of Mexico

Claudette's sudden development has me thinking that Florida, Louisiana and Texas better watch Ana for possible redevelopment.

1. It has been so very hot and dry here in South Texas this summer
and in the past these types of summers end with a hurricane or at least a tropical storm coming ashore here. Or, as in October 1998, a Pacific hurricande generated devastating flooding all the way over in Central and South Central Texas.

3. I'll never forget it!

I've never seen rain water pouring off the roof like that before or since. I saw streets flood that I didn't see any way they could ever flood. It was incredible. A couple of weeks ago, I talked to someone down in Tivoli that lives on the Guadalupe River there. They were out of their home for weeks in 1998.

4. I learn something here every day
Never heard about that before.

As destructive as mother nature is, her beauty is frightening.
Just look at Bill taking shape - this is going to be a massive hurricane.

8. Bill looks powerful but he may never hit land
Or he could. I'm not the weather service. But he may just end up curving away from land. I hope so - if he goes straight he may just hit me.

6. yup! I had to go to San Antonio to get to Houston from CC
Even Highway 77 was closed from Victoria on. Those highways stayed closed for weeks after I had to make that trip.

And the water *almost* went over the Olmos Dam, first time that had happened since the '30's!

9. Yeah, 281 was closed in both directions
because of the high water behind the dam..

I've still got video I took that day.

5. It is expected to still be a depression by the time it passes us
in the Keys. I don't think much will come of it.

Claudette visited us Saturday before being named. A ton of rain and some gusty winds.

That's what I expect of Ana. The Weather Channel cracks me up, standing in heavy rain in the Panhandle trying to make a mountain out of a molehill.

They just can't handle that they haven't been able to do their usual panic-mongering this year.

11. There is evidence that water temps in the Gulf have been higher
than normal. Some folks however, disagree. These same folks probably scoff and suggest evidence of global warming is "fear mongering."

<snip>Last week, the weather station near the Bay-Waveland Yacht Club recorded a water temperature of 93 degrees.

<snip>Monday morning, the water temperature was already 89 degrees in the Bay of St. Louis. That's not unexpected. Over the last couple of weeks, the daily readings from that weather station have recorded higher than normal temperatures.

<snip>Graham said the water temperatures are also higher than normal deeper in the Gulf of Mexico

<snip>"Water temperatures are a couple of degrees above normal throughout the Gulf of Mexico.
