F*ck Public option. DEMAND Single Payer.
These paople work for us. NOT the other way around. We are the People. We are THEIR boss, not the other way around.

DEMAND single payer. It's our money. It's our Gov't. They work for US.

And no more namby pamby bullshit either. If your name is Max Baucus or Kent Conrad, be on notice. We're coming for you. And we have our pitchforks ready.

1. we can demand it, but it ain't gonna happen. Not at this point in time.
As for our reps working for us, what does that really mean? Does that mean in a repuke district that blue dogs should do as the majority of their constituents wish?

And sorry, I don't do meaningless threats or pitchforks, and I live in Vermont not Montana.

Representatives aren't simply elected to be zombies for the majority opinion on any given issue. I vote for my reps rooted on their history and philosophy, understanding that once in office they're not obligated to do do as any particular constituency demands.

2. Yes! When the public option has 45ish votes, lets push for the idea that has even fewer votes! nt

4. In negotiating or making demands, you don't start in a weak position.
If you scream for single payer, you might just get a REAL public option.

5. Let's hold their feet to the fire instead of settling for so-called polical expedience, which never
gets us anywhere, except more poor, with fewer options.

3. "We are the people" really means "we are 33% of the people"
Edited on Mon Aug-17-09 07:03 AM by BzaDem
because that is around the percentage of congresspersons that support Single Payer. The American people have had close to 30 opportunities to change this percentage since Truman's healthcare effort, and they have declined to do so each and every time.

7. That is a hell of a big voting block.
The Civil Rights Act wasn't so popular either.

8. Bullshit it does. That's just wrong thinking, those congresspeople are there for you,
and the american people don't decline to do it, the corporations buy the message, and control the media.

Death squads are a lie, but that didn't stop them from telling it.

6. Maybe we need to keep demanding single payer just to get any public option.
Many people decided that for now they could live with the public option and suddenly it's turned into co-ops.

9. It's very true. The debate started with single payer and Rahm Emmanuel dialed it back
to public option. Now they dial back public option to co=op.

Fuck Kent Conrad. He needs to go. I don't give a shit if the seat goes republican either.

He needs to GO.

10. Might as well.
Without at least a public option it is likely a waste of time and money anyway, although some toothless mush will pass and both sides will claim victory.

11. We're probably not going to even get public option
Frankly, that's why I think there should be no bill at all. Obviously, we need more suffering out there to have enough people to rally around our cause, and doing nothing should produce it.

It's like wars--they're popular until the right number of body bags come home.

14. Exactly. Americans are basically ignorant and can only respond to extreme conditions and simple
plans.

Thus, until more people do suffer and die from health insurance abuse

AND

are presented with an easy-to-understand plan (e.g., all health care that "you and your doctor" agree on is covered), there will be NO improvement in the current way "health care" is done in this country.

12. That's like getting turned down for a good night kiss in a first date and then asking for a BJ
If there aren't the votes for a public option there certainly aren't enough for single payer.

16. This deserves a REALLY REALLY bad analogy award. And it assumes some REALLY stupid shit
It's like telling the people who work for us who is BOSS, not a fucking first date.

18. They do not work for us, they work for the people of their respective states/districts
Many Democrats in Congress were elected from districts which also voted for John McCain.

13. They SHOULD work for us, the sad fact is that they don't
They work for the corporations that pay them to get reelected.

15. Looks Like We Know What Our Options Are Now...
It's either stay healthy or die. Anything in between, you're a drain on the system...a drag on profits.

The story here is the Golden Rule inside the beltway is all that matters...ye who has the gold makes the rules.

I won't "demand" single-payer cause I didn't like the concept of the government playing god and gatekeeper with healthcare as much as I don't trust the insurance companies. I could demand chocolate ice cream for breakfast, lunch & dinner, but there needs to be more than talk.

The bottom line is ANY Democrat who fought against public option is to be held responsible...be it with pocketbooks or volunteering or phone banking. If those people are so selfish and in the tank, they not only don't deserve our support, they deserve challenges and replaced.
