To pay for a "Medicare for all" choice

Why don't they just offer the option of everyone who wants in a public option deduct 3% of your paycheck?
Is that so difficult?

I pay way more than that now with a private plan and would gladly switch.

Seems to me this would generate a massive amount of funding.
