One knuckledragger said that, and about 500 DUers.

Jeebus. A whole lot of DUers are not happy unless they are drowning in their own misery. Can't find any misery? Just invent some!

3. That's the prevailing thought, whether it's based in reality or not.

4. I will be very pleasantly surprised if I am wrong about that.
I certainly hope I am wrong.

5. Whether or not you are "wrong" depends on where your standard is for "selling out"
Some people will be miserable if there is no single payer health insurance, no gay marriage, no rapid end to all conflicts, etc. They will feel betrayed.

7. True. Here's my test, if you're interested.
This isn't football. It's not about whether "our team" wins. The test is whether enacted legislation actually benefits the American people. Without a strong public option (one that will insure 100 million people in five years), I do not believe the legislation being considered actually benefits the American people. In fact, it looks like a big give-away to the insurance and pharmaceutical industries. I'd rather have single-payer, but I can see real competition and a real move toward single-payer if we enact a public option that will, in five years, insure one out of every three Americans. Co-ops won't even come close, and a weak public option that, in five years insure only ten million Americans, will not have the bargaining power to drive down costs. I'd rather see nothing done than to see us enact co-ops or a weak public option.

That's my test, fwiw.

9. Thank you for sharing that. My bar is only a bit lower:
All Americans must have access to health care through this legislation. No exceptions. Those who have insurance can keep it. Those who don't want this kind of access aren't the problem, so take them out of the equation. But those without coverage need help. I'm willing to compromise on the public option if these people get insured.

It would be awesome if we could flush the health insurance companies forever and take on the Canadian or European system overnight. Unfortunately, there's a lot of inertia against that.
