"The Wizard's First Rule: People are stupid;
given proper motivation almost anyone will believe almost anything."
— Terry Goodkind (Wizard's First Rule)

When Obama and others in the WH say that the Public Option is "not the most essential" element in the HCR bills, they are not saying they are willing to drop them. They are trying refocus attention on other aspects of the bills. "Look at the other parts of the bills, don't you want this?"

Obama has repeatedly said he will not sign a bill without a Public Option. His admin has repeatedly said "nothing has changed".

1. You've kinda missed the point.
You see, at DU, there are people who are forward thinkers with positive "can do"* attitudes. And there are others who never stop to read, think, analyze, or reflect. They spend their days screaming at the tv and spitting at the computer screen.

Most of us get what you're saying. The rest aren't interested.

2. Has he repeatedly said "I will not sign a bill without a Public Option?"
If he said that, I missed it.

If he said that, is it possible that he has changed his mind? Sounds to me like he has changed his mind on that, if he did say it.

4. Perhaps. Without a link, I can't be sure.
But, presuming you are right, can you answer my second question? Isn't it possible that he has changed his mind on that?

It still seems to me that he is backing away from this position.

11. Indeed. He said it on July 18, 2009.
Link here: http://www.whitehouse.gov/the_press_office/Weekly-Address-President-Obama-Says-Health-Care-Reform-Cannot-Wait

The President said, "That’s why any plan I sign must include an insurance exchange: a one-stop shopping marketplace where you can compare the benefits, cost and track records of a variety of plans – including a public option to increase competition and keep insurance companies honest – and choose what’s best for your family."

My bad. Sorry.

It does appear that he may have changed his mind, however.

9. Have you, in any of your posts on this, created the impression that the public option is dead?
That's the impression I've gotten.

And, Obama has many times stressed the importance of the public option.

"Beginning on Day One" ..."One Brigade a Month" .... I guess he says whatever he feels like at the time and then does whatever he wants. sort of like a Politician.

17. Go back and watch the interview again.
As one administration official said - Sebelius didn't misspeak. "The media misplayed it".

16. Andy Kaufman knew this 30 years ago.
80% percent of this country actually believed he was wrestling women - picked randomly out of an audience on SNL.

Everything I know about American politics I learned from Andy.
