Jo Anna Doble, a 47-year-old unaffiliated voter from Carbondale, said she supports health care reform. Standing on the same side as opponents to Obama’s plan, she claimed “the stuff that people are spewing are out-and-out lies.”
Christina Maestas, 34, believes Obama has the good of the public in mind with his plan. That’s why the registered independent from Grand Junction said she supports his proposed reform.
“We have to be open to an idea. It won’t get better all by itself,” she said as she held a sign that read “Thank you, Mr. President, for thinking of everyone.”
As the town hall meeting wound down inside the school, two Obama supporters and one detractor met in the middle of Warrior Way, hugged and danced briefly in a circle.
“I think we’re all Americans,” the detractor, 34-year-old George Smith, said a few minutes later. “We can still get along and protest in peace.”
